United To Launch IAD-HNL Service

United Airlines (United Continental Holdings) announced today that they will launch non-stop service between IAD (Dulles International Airport, Washington, DC) and HNL on June 7, 2012, using a 767-424ER.

TransAir's N587CA

TM Financial Corporation of Honolulu has acquired a Convair CV-640-440DF, N587CA (msn 463). According to FAA records, the mailing address is the same as Trans Executive Airlines (dba TransAir). It arrived this evening from BAK (Columbus Muni Airport, OH), via AMA (Amarillo International Airport, TX), VGT (North Las Vegas Airport, NV), MCE (Merced Municipal Airport, CA) and BFL (Meadows Field Airport, Bakersfield, CA) as RDS587. It's not known how the Convair will be utilized, though speculation is that it may replace the G-159s that were chartered for service between CXI and HNL, that was previously operated for TransAir by Maritime Air Charters (which has relocated N8E to SAT). It may be also chartered by the US Department of the Interior for work around immediate region. It's seen above on the TransAir ramp on Monday, January 31st.

Recently, the airline purchased a 737-200C, N808TA, which they are still awaiting delivery on. No details are available for the whereabouts of this airframe. It's been reported that TransAir will use the 737 to compete against Aloha Air Cargo, as their working agreement has ended.

The history of this Convair is rather vague. According to FAA records, this CV-640 was built in 1957. A database reports that it held the registration N4405, but the FAA records does not show it belonging to this CV-640. In the 1970s, it was with Pacific Western Airlines [PW/PWA], registered as CF-PWO. In the early to mid 1980s, it went to Echo Bay Mines and North Cariboo. Viking International acquired the CV-640 as N587CA in the mid 80s, after it was converted into a freighter. In the 1990s, it went to Kitty Hawk Air Cargo. In March 1999, it was sold to Rhoades Aviation of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

ATI To Provide 767-200 For Mokulele

Air Transport International (ATI) [BC/ATN] will provide the chartered 767-200ER for the new Mokulele Airlines venture to RFD and STN (London-Stansted, UK) that will launch in April. The airline received government approval for the flights.

ATI is known more for government and private charter work. It's one of the few airlines remaining that operate the DC-8-60 and -70. One of ATI's DC-8-60s operates a military charter out of HIK.

Lion Air's PK-LJK

Lion Airlines' PK-LJK (c/n 38311, l/n 3900) has the distinction of being the 3,900 737 Next Generation built and delivered. The 737-9GPER is beginning its delivery flight trek from BFI to CGK (via HNL, MAJ, and BIK) today, and is seen above at dusk as it preps for the next leg to MAJ. This is the second 737-9GPER delivered to Lion Air in the past nine days.

With many of the Pacific Rim carriers ordering Next Generation 737s, most of them will stop through Hawai‘i (mainly HNL) during their first segment of its island-hopping delivery flights from Boeing Field. This list will be continuously updated as information becomes available.

Ex-Virgin Blue VH-ZHF

The last remaining Embraer E-170LR in the Virgin Blue (now Virgin Australia) fleet is ferrying to the mainland. VH-ZHF (msn 17000255) "Little Miss Sunshine Coast", using its registration as its flight designator, originated from BNE, and made stops at HIR (Honaira International Airport, Guadalcanal) and MAJ, before its stop at HNL.

The airline has purged the six 78-seat Brazilian-made regional jets it had, but is keeping the larger E-190ARs it has. 17000255 is headed to MSP to join the Compass Airlines (Delta Connection) [CP/CPZ] fleet as N752CZ, where it will join the other five ex-Virgin Blue E-170LRs.

Hawaiian's N919ME

Hawaiian Airlines recently received their second of three ex-Midwest 717-2BLs. N919ME (c/n 55181, l/n 5135) will be re-registered as N492HA. Named after the 'Ewa 'Ewa or the sooty tern, it flew across the Pacific via VCV (Victorville, California) to join Hawaiian's fleet.

Hawaiian And jetBlue Form Partnership

Hawaiian Airlines and jetBlue Airways announced that they have formed a code-share partnership. jetBlue has several common west coast cities that both airlines serve, as well as Hawaiian's new route to JFK that begins in June. This new code-share adds to the growing list of airlines that Hawaiian has partnered with. The code-share and mileage partnership begins this week with LAX, and will grow further in June, when Hawaiian will be sharing JFK's Terminal 5 with jetBlue. Eventually, both carriers will be putting their flight codes on each others flights.

In the middle photo, one of Hawaiian Air's A330-243s, N381HA (msn 1114) "Hōkūle‘a", is getting pushed out the gate at HNL for departure. In the bottom photo, jetBlue's A320-232, N621JB (msn 2491) "Do-be-do-be-blue", is seen taxiing across the LAS tarmac for departure.

Fly Guam's N238AG

Fly Guam's 737-4Y0, N238AG (c/n 23866, l/n 1589), is making its way back the US mainland. The 737-4Y0, wet-leased from Sky King, is flying as SGB2383. This leaves Fly Guam without an aircraft for their service. It's not known why N238AG is headed back to the mainland.

OGG's Runway Paving Dilemma

The FAA, state's Department of Transportation, and Maui County are mulling over options about repaving OGG's main runway, Runway 2/20. One of the three options include shutting down wide-body traffic for almost three months, while the other two call for the extension of the not-often used Runway 5/23 to accommodate mainland and inter-island traffic. A total repaving of the 70-year-old Runway 2/20 is needed as federal funding will no longer cover patch jobs currently done by the state.

One item not covered in the article, is extending Runway 2/20, which would allow non-stop heavy jet flights to/from the midwest, east coast, and possibly Japan. Extending the north-south runway has been a decades-long debate, as a group have consistently protested that extending 2/20 will bring too many tourists to the "Valley Isle". As far back as the late 1980s, Japan Airlines wanted to fly directly to OGG from NRT, but the 7,000-foot Runway 2/20 would prohibit a direct return flight, therefore they chose to go to KOA. United's 777-200 return flight to ORD must stop at KOA for fuel.

Over the past several years, airlines have been expanding service to OGG. Having both runways extended (2/20 to 10,000 feet, and 5/23 to 7,000) with LAHSO (Land And Hold Short) operations will actually put less fatigue on Runway 2/20. The photo above shows OGG from the air, as the flight I was on circled around Haleakalā for its approach to Runway 2.

Kaiser Air's N737KA

Kaiser Air brought their 737-7BX, N737KA (c/n 30740, l/n 776) "Lani", in from OGG as KAI65. It's seen above landing on Runway 4R. N737KA arrived at OGG on Wednesday as KAI518 from OAK. The aircraft has a 60 VIP seat configuration, and about as many passengers disembarked from the 737 on the Bradley Pacific ramp.

This 737-7BX was originally delivered to Midway Airlines in February 2001 as N365ML. It then went to Virgin Blue (now Virgin Australia) as VH-VBT "Launie Lass" in January 2003. Kaiser Air (through NAS Investments) acquired it in March 2009, and had the interior configured to 60 VIP seats.

N737KA is also used on Kaiser Air's Kona Air Shuttle, between OAK and KOA.

HMH-363 CH-53D Crash

A Kāne‘ohe-based US Marine Corps CH-53D from HMH-363 "Red Lions" crashed yesterday in the Helmand Province of Afghanistan, killing all six on board. The unit is on a one-year deployment to support Operation Enduring Freedom, and are scheduled to return to Marine Corps Base Hawai‘i in March.

Completing today's 737-800 delivery trifecta is Shandong Airlines' B-5626 (c/n 38103, l/n 3903). The 737-8HX, leased from ACG, is flying as CDG5626. This also happens to be the second 737-800 delivery to Shandong in as many days. Its departure time from BFI was pushed back six hours, due to the icy conditions there. B-5626 is seen above, under the Hawaiian sun on Taxiway RT, heading for MAJ.

Air New Zealand's ZK-OKP

Early yesterday morning, ANZ1, with service to Auckland, New Zealand (AKL/NZAA) from Los Angeles International (LAX/KLAX), was diverted to Honolulu about midway through the flight. ZH-OKP (c/n 39401, l/n 972) is seen above departing later the same evening. This 777-319ER was delivered to Air New Zealand back in November.

China Southern's B-5641

Today brings a 737-800 delivery trifecta through HNL! Leading off, is Xiamen Airlines' B-5630 (c/n 38386, l/n 3897). The 737-85C is flying as CXA5630. As with yesterday's delivery flights, snow and ice delayed B-5630's departure for almost three hours. The photo above shows B-5630 in much warmer climate, as it is pushed out from its South Ramp hardstand, to depart for MAJ.

Hainan's B-5636

The Pacific Northwest region is currently being hammered by a snow storm which has caused numerous flight delays.

Hawaiian And ANA Launch Code-Share

Hawaiian Makes OGG Their New Hub

Hawaiian Airlines announced today that OGG will become the airline's second hub in the islands. It will create non-stop flights between OGG and KOA, ITO, and LIH. These new 717-200 flights will allow easier connections from those flying into OGG from the west coast cities that Hawaiian serves.

Skymark Airlines' JA73NK

Skymark Airlines' JA73NK (c/n 38023, l/n 3883) is the first trans-Pacific 737 delivery flight of 2012 to stop through HNL. The GECAS-leased 737-86N is flying as SKY73NK, and is the first of two delivery flights to stop at HNL today. It's seen above the next morning, taxiing out to Runway 8R, to depart for MAJ.

Hawaiian Upgrades KIX Service To A330

Hawaiian Airlines announced this morning that, beginning April 21st, they will upgrade their KIX service to their A330-243. It will result in an 11,000-seat boost on this route that began on July 21, 2011.

On a related note, the airline announced that they set a passenger capacity record in 2011, transporting over 8.6 million passengers system-wide.

N709AG

N709AG (c/n 24709, l/n 2115), a 737-4Q8 owned by ACG Acquisitions, is ferrying through HNL from MIA, via SBD. It's bound for New Zealand's Airwork/Toll Priority. It left for APW early this morning.

According to MRC Aviation, it will be registered as ZK-TLF.

24709 was originally delivered delivered to ILFC, and leased to Malaysia Airlines as 9M-MJG in September 1991. Carnival Airlines acquired the 737-4Q8 in July 1994, and was registered as N604KW. When the airline was merged with Pan American Airways, N604KW went with it, and was named "Clipper Splendid". In July 1998, ILFC leased 24709 to Olympic Airways as SX-BKM. The Greek carrier bought the 737 from ILFC in December 2003, and received the 2007 livery. ACG Acquisitions purchased it in August 2009, and was placed in storage at VCV. Only recently was it ferried to MIA, via RSW, for preparation for ACG's next lessee, Toll Priority. We've been told by sources that this 737-4Q8 has been converted to a freighter.

N709AG was originally scheduled for delivery from December 20th, but was delayed until after the holiday season.

Reeve Aleutian's N178RV

Happy New Year!

Our first 2012 edition of "HNL RareBirds Classic" is Reeve Aleutian Airways' L-188C(PF) Electra, N178RV (c/n 2010), that paid a visit to HNL in 1996. The Electra, seen above, was photographed on HNL's South Ramp, near the UPS hardstands.

The early history of N178RV is somewhat vague, as the dates of delivery are not listed. It was originally delivered to Tasman Empire Airways Limited (TEAL), the predecessor to Air New Zealand, as ZK-TEB. It then went on to Transamerica Airlines [TV/TVA] as N33506. It's next owner was Northwest Territorial Cargo as C-GNWC. Reeve Aleutian [RV/RVV] acquired this Electra in September 1988, and remained with the fleet until the airline's closure in December 2000. It was then acquired by Atlantic Airlines (UK), and had the registration changed to N2RK, and the titles changed to "Reeve Illusion". In August 2010, Buffalo Airways [BFL] (Canada) picked up this Electra, and registered as C-FIJX, but still wears the "Reeve Illusion" colors. Buffalo Airways is the subject of the reality TV show "Ice Pilots" that airs in the USA on the National Geographic Channel.

A former China Xinhua Airlines 737-36Q, B-2982 (c/n 28657, l/n 2859), made its way from TNA to VCV (via GUM, MAJ and HNL). The 737 Classic that was part of the Hainan Air Group, was acquired by the Aviation Capital Group (ACG), and registered as N657AG. It left for VCV this morning.

Sorry, we were unable to get a photo of N657AG at HNL. I did see a white tail 737 parked on the South Ramp hardstands from the H1 East on the 25th.

C-GHPE At OGG

I didn't expect to hear an ACA flight turning right base on the radio when I was on my way to Costco today. Here is C-GHPE (c/n 33423, l/n 897) arriving from CYYC. Seasonal daily flight. This 767-33AER was previously regestered as Hawaiian Airlines N591HA. That dent on the fuselage just below the leading edge of the right horizontal stabilizer seems like something that should be checked. And the location of the aft bulkhead appears to be visible on the skin.

Hawaiian's Newest 717 Arrives

The first of Hawaiian Airlines ex-Midwest 717-2BLs arrived from Oakland International (KOAK/OAK) earlier this evening as HAL9003. N922ME (c/n 55184, l/n 5142) will be re-registered as N493HA. Hawaiian's fleet of 717s are named after the native birds of Hawaii. Ship 93 has received the name ‘Ua‘u or the Hawaiian Petrel.

N104HK

N104HK (c/n 26465, l/n 2362) is a former Malaysia Airlines 737-4H6 that has been purchased be the Bank of Utah. It's being ferried from CGK to the mainland (via T11 [Yap], MAJ, and HNL).

26465 was originally delivered to Malaysia Airlines as 9M-MME in September 1992. From September 1999 to June 2002, it was leased to Angel Airways [8G/NGE] (Thailand), and retained the same registration. Upon its return to MAS, it served Malaysia until a few weeks ago.

Westjet's 757-200 Service

Westjet Airlines [WS/WJA] has leased a 757-200 from Thomas Cook Airlines to provide seasonal service between the Canadian province of Alberta and Hawai‘i. The flights will go between YYC (Calgary) and HNL, YYC and OGG, and YEG (Edmonton) and OGG. These flights will run through April 2012.

G-WJAN (c/n 28674, l/n 746), is the 757-21K that WestJet is sub-leasing from Thomas Cook Airlines (MT/TCX), who leased it from Alcudia Leasing. It's seen above being pushed out to Taxiway Z for engine start.

The YYC-OGG flight (WJA3004/3005) launched yesterday, and will run three times per week. The YYC-HNL (WJA3008/3009) weekly flight begins today, and the YEG-OGG weekly flight begins on the 18th.

Mokulele To RFD?

The Greater Rockford Airport Authority [RFD/KRFD] has offered Mokulele Flight Service (dba Mokulele Airlines) an opportunity to expand their service to the northern Illinois city airport from HNL beginning in March 2012. The offer also proposes Mokulele to continue onto Stansted, London, UK [STN/EGSS] in May 2012.

Mokulele has yet to release a statement to confirm these reports. The current Mokulele fleet consists of four Cessna C208B Caravans. This would mean acquiring ETOPS-certified aircraft to fly those flights.

It has been reported locally that Mesa Airlines, parent company of go!, has a stake in this offer. But Mesa sold off its share in Mokulele, and only remains as a code-share partner in the go!Mokulele operation.

It's probably the only new build A320 series that does a west-bound delivery flight to the Pacific. All others leave TLS, and travel eastbound across the Middle East and southern Asia,

Air Australia [VC/AGC] began service today between BNE (Brisbane, Australia) and HNL. The first flight landed (above) on Runway 4R just before 0730 as "Strategic1". Their A330-223, VH-SSA "Outback" (msn 324), still wears the original Strategic livery and branding, as it is their lone A330. Only their one of their three A320-212s have received the Air Australia livery.

Service between MEL and HNL will launch on Friday.

Air Transat TSC60 And TSC80

The second and third of four Air Transat A330-243s sub-leased by Garuda Indonesia are on their way back to Canada. In all of the hubbub of Air Force 1 departing HNL on 11.15.11, I forgot that a Philippine Airlines A330-301, RP-C3335 (msn 189), arrived as PAL100 from MNL, minutes before the President's plane departed. This A330 wears 70th anniversary markings over the wing section of the fuselage. PAL100/101 is normally served with an A340-300, but was substituted with this A330-301.

Pearl Harbor Attack 70th Anniversary

The HNL RareBirds team honors those who lost their lives in the attack on the Pearl Harbor Naval Base, 70 years ago today. Along with the naval base, ‘Ewa Marine Corps Air Field, Kāne‘ohe Marine Corps Air Field, Hickam Army Air Field, Bellows Army Air Field, and Wheeler Army Air Field, all came under attack by carrier-based fighter-bombers of the Imperial Japanese Navy.

The USS Arizona Memorial sits above the sunken hull of the battleship, BB-39. Within the sunken hulls off of Ford Island, are hundreds of sailors and marines entombed, and the area considered sacred ground and a National Cemetery.

Itʻs also seen in their original livery. This 13-year-old "Baby Boeing" continues to fly with Hainan, and has since been re-painted in their current livery. Transair [Trans Executive Airlines dba] (MUI) has filed a Certificate of Public Conveyance with the Department of Transportation for expansion of their cargo operations to upgrade to a 737-200C, and scheduled passenger operations with the lone passenger-configured SD360.

The airline has purchased a 737-2B1C, N808TA (c/n 20536, l/n 289), from AerGo Capital Ltd. This 737 was originally delivered to DETA Lineas Aéreas de Moçambique in October 1971, as CR-BAC. It was re-registered as C9-BAC in October 1975. AerGo Capital Ltd acquired C9-BAC, and leased it back to Lineas Aéreas de Moçambique in 1980. TransGlobal Airways then leased the 737 in October 2006 as RP-C8015.

The US Department of Transportation (DoT) awarded the Essential Air Service contract to Makani Kai Charters (a subsidiary of Schuman Aviation) to provide air service between HNL and LUP. Makani Kai will be using two of their three nine-seat Cessna 208B Grand Caravans for the flight.

Schuman had all of their three Caravans (N687MA [c/n 208B1002, above], N865MA [c/n 208B0996], and N866MA [c/n 208B0934, a Cargomaster]) parked on the South Ramp for the past couple of months, with the termination of the Pacific Air Express venture. Filming took place over the next two days, then N801SY flew out to PGD (Punta Gorda, FL), via SFO and ELP in the wee hours of the 23rd.

The two photos show the production crew scouting out the location and 737. Production trucks lined Kapalulu Street, but the cast trailers were in another location.

Also, in tonight's episode was N6131P (c/n 66-16093), a UH-1H Huey owned by Pacific Helicopter Tours of Kahului, Maui.

Hawaiian Announces JFK Service

Hawaiian Airlines has announced that they will be flying daily, non-stop to JFK beginning June 4, 2012. This new service initially showed up as one of their special offers on their website hours before their press release came out.

The flights will be using their A330-243s. This service will be Hawaiian's first mainland destination east of PHX.

Just some history, Hawaiian was originally going to announce service to JFK in September 2001. However, the 9/11 terrorist attacks derailed those plans.

Presently, the only time a Hawaiian Air 767 is spotted in New York, is for team charters for the NFL's Oakland Raiders or Seattle Seahawks. Continental (United) offers daily, non-stop service between HNL and EWR. The last airline to fly non-stop between HNL and JFK was Pan American in 1989. Though, according to some reports, American Trans Air had a JFK-HNL flight operated with an L1011-500 in the late 90s.

President Barack Obama departed Honolulu this morning for Canberra (CBR/YSCB), then Darwin (DRW/YPDN), Australia in "Air Force 1", seen above lifting off from Runway 8L. 82-8000 (c/n 23824, l/n 679), a VC-25A (747-2G4B), brought the President here for the APEC 2011 Conference. The blue helicopter, in the background, is HPD's N504HP which carried a pair of Secret Service agents, that followed the motorcade, and landed after "Air Force 1" made its right turn south over Ke‘ehi Lagoon.

This C-32A (757-2G4W), 98-0001 (c/n 29025, l/n 783), followed "Air Force 1" as SAM (Special Air Missions) 44. It departed a few minutes after, on Runway 8L. It received its Aviation Partners Boeing Blended Winglets in 2007.

Chinese President Hu Jintao and his entourage came to Honolulu for the APEC 2011 Conference using one Air China's 747-4J6s. B-2472 (c/n 30158, l/n 1243) flew as CCA25 to and from PEK. The 747 parked on the HIK ramp, where President Hu arrived at the HIK VIP Terminal, and left from there this morning. It's seen above climbing out from its Runway 8L take-off.

B-2472 has been configured as a VIP transport for Chinese dignitaries.

The J6 Boeing customer code was originally allocated to the CAAC (Civil Aviation Authority of China). It carried onto Air China, after its creation. Air China's 777-200s, 767-300ERs, and some of their 737-300s carry the J6 code, while newer purchases carry the current 9L Boeing code.

With the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference in town, there comes various, different aircraft from around the world. This morning arrivals included Russia's President Dmitri Medvedev, Australia's Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Philippine's President Benigno Aquino III, Chile's President Sebastian Pinera, and Brunei's Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah.

Seen above is an entourage of two Il-62Ms. There was also a Il-96-300 that landed before the Il-62Ms' carrying Dmitri Medvedev himself. RA-86559 (c/n 2153258) and RA-86467 (c/n 3749733) made the trip over from Moscow.

Also above is the Sultan of Brunei's V8-ALI (c/n 26426, l/n 910), a 747-430.

RA-78818 (msn 0093495858), an Ilyushin Il-76MD of the Russian Air Force (Voyenno-Vozdushnye sily Rossiya [Военно-Воздушные сили Россия]) arrived at HNL this morning to bring in the limousines for President Dmitry Medvedev, for his visit for the APEC Conference. It's seen above taxiing to Taxiway F, where it will park until the end of the conference.

The Il-76 taxied on its own power to the parking spot, because the tow bar attached to the ground handler's tug had snapped right before towing from the UPS/FedEx ramp. A few minivans led the way to the parking to bring the cargo jet's crew back.

Alaska To Add Bay Area - HNL Service

Alaska Airlines announced today that they will launch daily non-stop service to HNL from SJC and OAK, in April 2012. With this move, Alaska will now have service between the Northern California Bay Area and all four major Hawai‘i airports. The airline will use their 737-890s for these new flights, as their fleet also continues to expand with more 737NGs on the way.

Garuda's PK-GIJ

The November edition of "HNL RareBirds Classic" goes back to January 6, 1996, where Garuda Indonesia's MD-11, PK-GIJ (c/n 48504, l/n 548) was photographed as it taxied along Taxiway RT. Garuda used to fly between CGK and HNL from the mid-90s to the late 90s. The short-lived service arrived from CGK around midnight, and returned the next morning.

PK-GIJ was originally delivered to Garuda in December 1993, and stayed for over four years. In November 1998, it went to Varig as PP-VQH. In 2007, 48504 was converted to a freighter, and acquired by Aeroflot in June 2008, as VP-BDQ.

During one of their landings on Runway 4R, a Garuda MD-11 had a tail-strike, that resulted in a go-around that had the tri-jet rocket over Kalihi, Nu‘uanu, downtown Honolulu, and Kaka‘ako before turning out to sea to re-cycle for another approach to Runway 4R. I was sitting out on my lanai of my condo that night, watching the string of late evening 4R arrivals, when I heard the Garuda crew request the go-around over my scanner. It was an amazing to watch and hear that MD-11 go full throttle over the city, especially watching the marker lights climb and bank. The MD-11 was subsequently parked on the South Ramp. It was determined that the damage was rather extensive, and temporary repairs could be made, so it could be ferried to the McDonnell-Douglas facilities at LGB for major repairs. I heard that the tail section did suffer damage to the airframe.

Royal Canadian Air Force's 15001

An RCAF Airbus CC-150 Polaris (A310-304), 15001 (msn 446), paid a visit to HNL today, and parked at Gate 34. It's one of five CC-150s in the RCAF fleet.

This A310 was originally delivered to Wardair Canada as C-GBWD in February 1988. When Canadian Airlines acquired Wardair Canada, C-GBWD was absorbed into the combined fleet. The Royal Canadian Air Force acquired the A310 in 1993, and had a main deck cargo door installed in 1996.

Work Stoppage Cancels All Qantas Flights

In reaction to simultaneous labor disputes among three Qantas workers unions, the Australian carrier has grounded of all Qantas mainline and international flights today, including QFA3/4. QantasLink, JetStar, and JetConnect flights are not affected.

MT ANG Extends HI Deployment

The Great Falls Tribune reports that the six F-15C Eagles of the Montana Air National Guard's 120th FW that are here on alert deployment will extend their stay until September 2012. The Hawai‘i Air National Guard's 199th FS (and US Air Force's 19th FS) is completing its transition to the F-22A Raptor.

Hawaiian Upgrades SFO Service To A330

Beginning November 6th, Hawaiian Airlines announced that their lone SFO service, HAL11/12, will be upgraded to one of their A330-243s. This fleet upgrade will add 30 extra seats each way.

Japan Airlines' 777 Flights

AirlinerRoutes.com reports that Japan Airlines will be substituting 777s on two flights. JAL's NGO service will have 777-246ERs on certain days, and JAL72/71 will have 777-346 service from 09-14 November.

Correction...JL72/71 will be 777-346ERs. JAL will also not be flying JL74/73 during APEC.

Ex-RAAF 707-338Cs

Earlier this week, two ex-Royal Australian Air Force 707-338Cs arrived from Pago Pago Pago (PPG/NSTU), after coming out of storage at Richmond, New South Wales, Australia (RCM/YSRI). N624RH (c/n 19624, l/n 689) and N629RH (c/n 19629, l/n 737) were registered as A20-624 and A20-629, respectively. Note that N624RH [top photo] still has special tail markings commemorating the 707's 29 years of service with the RAAF. Omega Air Tankers recently brought three 707-300s from the RAAF. N623RH (c/n 19623, l/n 671) [A20-623] should be leaving Richmond any time now.

All of the three 707-338Cs were with Qantas before they were acquired by the RAAF. A20-623 was VH-EAC, A20-624 was VH-EAD, and A20-629 was VH-EAI.

Hainan's B-5625

Hainan Airlines is taking delivery of B-5625 (c/n 38146, l/n 3812), a 737-84P. It's flying as B5625, and made its stop at HNL.

Aloha Air Cargo's Next Saab

The 2nd Saab SF340AF for Aloha Air Cargo, N844KH (msn 340A-108), has arrived in HNL. It is currently parked in front of the maintenance hangar. More information to follow.

Cargolux Airlines International (CV/CLX) began weekly Friday cargo flights from ORD, last week. The flight is operated with a 747-400F, and continues onto SYD. The flight arrives around 1445, and departs around 1600.

The last European cargo company to operate a similar flight was Lufthansa. That MD-11F service lasted a few years, which ended a couple of years ago; it also originated from ORD but continued onto AKL.
