Aloha Parks Their 737s Around HNL
Aloha Airlines has parked their 737-700s on Taxiway F west of Runway 4L, and south of Taxiway B (above), and some of their 737-200s are parked in the Aloha hangar area (middle) and near Gate 49 of the Makai Pier of the Interisland Terminal (top).
In the photo of the parked -700s, two of those birds have special meaning to me ... N751AL, "‘Aukele", was the 73W I rode home from SNA in 2004. Of course, N748AL, "Koholālele", was the 73W I had the honor of photographing the painting process that Wyland worked on.
The four -200s parked by Gate 49 are N824AL, N808AL, N843AL, and N837AL. N808AL was the one 737-200 that was once ETOPS certified and carried the flags of the USA, Marshall Islands, and Micronesia. The four parked at the hangar are N836AL, N828AL, N841AL, and N823AL. Of course, N823AL is the retro livery Funbird.
Mahalo to Ha763 for the -200 photos.
Are the freighter 737-200C still active ?
ReplyDeleteThe freighters are still flying. Only the passenger ops shut down. It has been eerily quiet at my workplace. No longer do I hear the high-pitched whine of the APU coming from the 732s parked at the gate or the deafening noise of the 732s passing right behind our warehouse.
ReplyDeleteI'll miss the frequent roar of the JT8Ds as they depart HNL, especially those days when the winds are calm.
ReplyDeleteI will get to hear the freighters, though they won't be as frequent.
This is breaking my heart. All of our prayers go the employees and families of AQ.
ReplyDeleteIt saddens me that our beautiful Aloha Birds will fade away and we will be left with the RJs of GO!
Looks like they are preparing to return PH-HZO. It is now at the AQ hangar instead of N823AL.
ReplyDeleteWho's flying the cargo flights? That's got to be a union nightmare. Didn't the paper say that the pilot's union would consider them "scabs" if they flew cargo? What a mess.
ReplyDeleteI believe that ALPA and Aloha will sort thru the pilots bidding on the April bidlines flying the nighttime cargo flights. Bidding is based on seniority and obviously with the passenger shut down that has changed quite a few things. The most senior pilots will be retained and get these flights in the future. I am curious to see what the cargo operation will be named once sold. It won’t be Aloha Airlines I am sure.
