American Airlines Flies Final MD-80 Revenue Flight

American Airlines' N984TW (c/n 53634, l/n 2287), an MD-83, made the last MD-80 revenue flight for the airline,  as AAL80 (DFW-ORD). American is retiring the last of the MD-80s in its fleet.

I've only captured two American Airlines MD-83s during trips to the mainland. Pictured on the top is N976TW (c/n 53626, l/n 2279), taken in November 2010 at LAX; and N9413T (c/n 53188, l/n 2119), taken in March 2013 at EWR.

49824 was oringally purchased by ILFC, then leased to BWIA-British West Indies Airways [BW/BWA] in December 1998 as 9Y-THU "Sunjet St. Kitts". In December 1996, it was leased to Trans World Airlines as N9420D (f/n 9420). A year later, it was sold to AWAS, and continued with TWA. When American Airlines acquired TWA, N9420D was transferred over, and assigned the AAL fleet number 4WY. In January 2013, it was returned to AWAS, and stored at ROW.
