HL8508

HL8508 (c/n 41987, l/n 11), a 787-8 BBJ DreamLiner owned by Samsung, and operated by Korean Air, is making a stop at HNL from GMP as KAL2903.

Korean Air's 787-8 BBJ, HL8508 (c/n 41987, l/n 11), will be making a stop at KOA from ORD as KAL2450 this afternoon.

Aloha ‘Oe Jetstar

Today was to have marked the end of Jetstar Airways' service between Australia and HNL. However, today's flight, JST3/4 (SYD-HNL-SYD) was canceled. The Qantas Group subsidiary is ending its almost 19 year run, as it was decided to concentrate Jetstar's operations in Asia. VH-VKE (c/n 36230, l/n 160) operated the now, final flight on Wednesday, 22 October.

On 27 December 2006, Jetstar's first flight arrived at HNL, and this past Wednesday witnessed its last flight out of HNL. Qantas Airways will take over all of Jetstar's routes between Australia and HNL.

Jetstar Airways To End HNL Service

Australia's news.com.au reports that after 19 years, Jetstar Airways will end service at HNL on 24 October 2025. Currently, Jetstar is just down to its SYD-HNL service. MEL-HNL service ended at the end of this past April. The airline's 787-8s will be re-assigned to routes around Asia.

Zipair To Increase Fleet

As part of a new order with Boeing, Japan Airlines announced that they will transfer two 787-8s and ten 787-9s to Zipair, which will increase the fleet size to 20. The two 787-8s will join Zipair in 2026, while the ten 787-9s will be added in 2027. Japan Airlines also has ten 787-9s on order, slated for deliveries in 2027 and 2028.

Japan Airlines also announced that they are adding 17 more 737-8s to their existing order of 21, bring the total to 38. Deliveries are set to begin in FY2026.

Zipair Resumes HNL Service

After a seasonal hiatus, Zipair resumes its three-times-weekly NRT-HNL service today. JA822J (c/n 34832, l/n 23), made Zipair's flight this morning as TZP2.

Korean Air's HL8508

Korean Air's VIP-configured 787-8, HL8508 (c/n 41987, l/n 11), will be making a stop at OGG from AFW as KAL2455. It left GMP for AFW on two days ago as KAL2453.

Hau‘oli Lā Hānau Jetstar Airways

Jetstar Airways is celebrating its 20th anniversary today. The Qantas Group low-cost subsidiary launched A330-200 service to HNL from SYD in Dec 2006. Nine years later, Jetstar upgraded to the 787-8, and now serves HNL from SYD (JST3/4), and MEL (JST1/2). They also had service between BNE and HNL (JST5/6), but was short-lived.

Jetstar To Revamp Its 787-8 Fleet

Jetstar Airways announced today, that they will be performing major upgrades to its 787-8 DreamLiner fleet, including a new livery similar to their A321N fleet. The cabins will also undergo upgrades as well. The work is slated to begin in late 2025, as the 787s go into heavy maintenance.

United Airlines Announces New Hawai‘i Routes

This morning, United Airlines announced new services from the mainland to the Hawaiian Islands that will begin later this year. 

For HNL, United will launch daily 737-724 service from SNA on May 6th. This will be the airline's eighth mainland gateway. The last service between SNA and HNL was with Aloha Airlines, that operated from 2000 to March 2008, when the airline shutdown.

For OGG, United will launch four-times-weekly 767-300ER service from EWR on June 3rd. EWR will be United's fifth gateway to serve Kahului.

For KOA, United will launch four-times-weekly 787-8 service from ORD, also beginning on June 3rd. ORD is fourth gateway to serve Kona.

ZIPAIR Tokyo Launches NRT-HNL Service

ZIPAIR Tokyo [ZG/TZP], Japan Airlines' international low-cost carrier off-shoot, began service to HNL from HNL as TZP2 this morning. The return flight left a few hours later as TZP1. JA825J (c/n 34835, l/n 33) made the inaugural service.

AeroMéxico's N966AM

AeroMéxico's 787-8 Dreamliner, N966AM (c/n 35311, l/n 155), has made a stop from ICN, as it ferries to MEX (via NRT and HNL) as AMX9870.

N966AM was delivered to AeroMéxico in March 2014 under lease from AerCap.

Uzbekistan Airways' UK78702

Uzbekistan Airways has been granted 787-8 charter flights between Japan and HNL. UK78702 (c/n38364, l/n 495) began service today from KIX as UZB3593, and will fly to/from various cities in Japan.

Uzbekistan Airlines Charters

Uzbekistan Airlines [HY/UZB] is performing 787-8 charter flights from NGO [Chubu Airport, Nagoya, Japan] for the New Year's travel season. Beginning today, for the next week, the airline will be flying in vacationers on travel packages from an undetermined Japanese travel agency.

UK-78701 (c/n 38363, l/n 470) is making the first of five charter flights.

Scoot Airlines To End HNL Service

Scoot Airlines announced that they will terminate their 787-8 service between KIX and HNL in June 2019, due to low demand.

American Airlines Winter Season ORD-HNL Service

American Airlines announced today that the winter season service between ORD and HNL will return on 19 December 2018, though this year, it will be with their 787-8s.

In the past, American used their DC-10-30s (1990s), and their 767-300ERs (2000s, and 2010s).

Scoot Launches Hawai‘i Service

Scoot [TR/TGW] (Singapore) launched service from Changi Airport, Singapore [SIN], via Kansai International Airport, Japan [KIX] this morning as TGW700. 9V-OFH "Scooti-mite" (c/n 37124, l/n 552), a 787-8, arrived this morning at 07:10, and returned as TGW701, three hours later.

Scoot Announces Hawai‘i Service

Scoot [TR/TGW] (Singapore), the low-cost subsidiary of Singapore Airlines announced this morning that they plan to launch service from Changi International Airport [SIN] to Honolulu via Kansai [KIX] by the summer of 2018, pending governmental approvals. The airline would use their 787 Dreamliner fleet for the service, and hopes that it could even start earlier.

Scoot Proposes SIN-KIX-HNL Service

According to an Airline Route tweet, Scoot [TZ/SCO] (Singapore) has proposed service between SIN [Singapore Changi Airport, Singapore] and HNL, via KIX. The tweet did not mention any specifics as to a start-up date, or aircraft type. This route is subject to US Department of Transportation approval. The airline currently as 13 787s (seven -8s, and six -9s), along with two more -8s on order.

Boeing's test 787-8, N7874 (c/n 40693, l/n 4), has returned to KOA from BFI today as BOE784 to continue further test flights south of Hawai‘i Island.
