Federal Express' N605FE

Federal Express is ferrying N605FE "April Star" (c/n 48514, l/n 515, f/n 605) from MEM to HNL as FDX619 tonight. The express forwarder also has N643FE "Haley" (c/n 48486, l/n 509, f/n 605) here, parked on the ‘Ewa Ramp, since the grounding in November. N605FE is scheduled to depart for LAX tomorrow evening.

Federal Express 757 Rotations

Federal Express is rotating 757-200Fs flying inter-island cargo. N939FD "Camila" (c/n 24528, l/n 250, f/n 939) will depart for IND today as FDX9078. On 04 May, N948FD "Anissa" (c/n 25059, l/n 363, f/n 948), returned to HNL from MEM, via OAK, as FDX9077.

Federal Express To Resume MD-11F Service

FreightWaves reports, that beginning in late next month, Federal Express plans to restart MD-11F cargo flights. An engine repair by Boeing has been made, and adopted by FedEx, but has yet to receive FAA approval. the airline plans to have all 29 MD-11Fs back in service once the repair procedures are approved.

N643FE "Kennedy" (c/n 48486, l/n 509, f/n 643) has been at HNL since the grounding last November. It taxied under its own power on 25 April, moving from the North Ramp hardstands to the ‘Ewa Ramp hardstands (above photo).

Federal Express' N919FD

Federal Express is ferrying N919FD "Evan" (c/n 24636, l/n 259, f/n 919) from MEM to HNL, via OAK, as FDX9075. It will join the other 757-200Fs in the inter-island cargo service.

Federal Express' N867FD

Following the passing of Federal Express founder Frederick W Smith, the airline is paying tribute with an FWS logo on the underside of N867FD "Jaxson" (c/n 40673, l/n 1697, f/n 867). The logo was applied to this 777-F in mid-October 2025. It first appeared at HNL on 30 January 2026 from MEM as FDX1413, and onto OAK as FDX1800 later that day. We got a photo of N867FD this morning while on final approach for Runway 8L as FDX1413 from MEM. It will depart for OAK as FDX 1800 this afternoon.

N899FD "Archer" (c/n 66266, l/n 1784, f/n 899) was the first 777-F to receive the FWS tribute logo in August 2025, and ran to October 2025.

Federal Express' N101FE

Federal Express is adding a flight from OAK to HNL, FDX1860, and it will be flown by their 767-3S2Fs. N101FE "Hannah" (c/n 42706, l/n 1058, f/n 101) is making today's pre-dawn flight. This will be the first time that FedEx will use their 767s for scheduled cargo flights to HNL, and comes on the heels of the MD-11F groundings.

Back in August 2021, Federal Express sent N120FE for ground training at HNL.

Federal Express is adding a fourth 757-200F for their inter-island operations. N914FD "Bella" (c/n 24367, l/n 208, f/n 914), 757-28AF, is ferrying from MEM, via GJT [Grand junction Regional Airport, Grand Junction, CO], as FDX9075.

UPS and FedEx Temporarily Ground Their MD-11F Fleets

In the wake of the UPS2976, both UPS Airlines and Federal Express have voluntarily grounded their MD-11F fleets for a safety stand-down. UPS currently has 36 MD-11Fs, and FedEx currently has 29 MD-11Fs in operation that will be temporarily grounded, for safety and inspections.

Both carriers have been using MD-11Fs to fly to/from HNL, and it's uncertain what the impact will be, but both airlines will substitute other airliners in their place.

In a brief statement by Boeing, it also recommends that Western Global Airlines temporarily grounds their fleet of 15 MD-11Fs.

Three MD-11Fs have been grounded at HNL. FedEx's N643FE "Kennedy" (c/n 48486, l/n 509, f/n 643) last flew from OAK to HNL on the 7th as FDX1875, and both UPS's N288UP (c/n 48504, l/n 611, f/n 288) and N254UP (c/n 48406, l/n 547, f/n 254)  last flew from SDF to HNL as UPS5966 and UPS2252 respectively on the 6th.

FedEx Feeder C408 Flights To KOA

In addition to its multiple C408F weekday flights between HNL and LIH, Corporate Air is launching multiple weekday C408F service between HNL and KOA today.

Federal Express Launches 757 Inter-island Flights

As we have reported since this past July, three Federal Express 757-200Fs have been in the islands. One at HNL, another at OGG, and another at ITO undergoing ground training. From today, FedEx is launching Monday-to-Friday inter-island flights out of HNL to OGG, and to ITO.

HNL-ITO: FDX1005 and FDX 1007 // ITO-HNL: FDX1006 and FDX1008
HNL-OGG: FDX1001 and FDX1003 // OGG-HNL: FDX1002 and FDX1004

In a related note, the Corporate Air-operated C408Fs have been flying exclusively between HNL and LIH, while their C208s have been serving the smaller airports like JHM, MKK and LNY.

FedEx's N772FX

Corporate Air's Hawai‘i operation is taking delivery of their fourth Cessna C408F SkyCourier. N772FX (msn 408-0033) made its delivery flight from VGT today, via SBA, as CPT48. This C408 was originally delivered to Corporate Air's FAR base in September 2024.

Federal Express is ferrying another 757-200F to HNL from OAK. N968FD "Wesley" (c/n 26274, l/n 676, f/n 968), a 757-28AF, arrived from OAK this morning as FDX9076.

Jun 1995: Delivered to Transaero as EI-CLU, under lease from ILFC.
Jan 1998: Re-registered as N751LF.
Feb 1999: Leased to Flying Colours as G-FLCH.
Mar 2000: Leased transferred to JMC Air, following the merger between Flying Colours and Caledonian Airways.
Mar 2003: Lease transferred to Thomas Cook Airlines, following the rebranding.
Apr 2013: Acquired by Federal Express, converted to a freighter, re-registered as N968FD, and named "Tatytem".
Aug 2024: Re-named "Wesley".

Federal Express has ferried N939FD "Camila" (c/n 24528, l/n 250, f/n 939) from LAX to ITO, as FDX9075. This 757-23AF arrived this morning, and will be used for ground training at ITO.

Federal Express' N948FD

Federal Express has flown in N948FD "Anissa" (c/n 25059, l/n 363, f/n 948) for an ETOPS certification flight and ground training today. This 757-236F flew in from MEM, via OAK, as FDX9075.

Apr 1991: delivered to British Airways as G-BPED "Blair Castle".
Jun 1997: Painted with the "Kogutki Lowickie" tail livery.
Jan 2004: Repainted in the current livery.
Sep 2009: Withdrawn from service, and stored at LHR.
Jun 2010: Ferried to LGW for storage.
Aug 2010: Purchased by Federal Express as N948FD, and ferried to VCV for storage.
Dec 2010: Ferried to XSP for freighter conversion.
Jun 2011: Named "Anissa", and inducted into service.

FedEx's N775FX

Corporate Air's FedEx Hawaiʻi operation is taking delivery of their third Cessna C408F SkyCourier, N775FX (msn 408-0038) today. Itʻs making its delivery flight from VGT, via SMX, as CPT775. It was delivered to Corporate Air at FAR in December 2024.

FedEx Feeder's N776FX

Corporate Air has ferried their second C408F, N776FX (msn 408-0040), from VGT to HNL, via SMX, to operate in their inter-island FedEx Feeder operation. It making the ferry flight today, and will arrive this evening. This SkyCourier was delivered to Corporate Air, under lease from FedEx, in December 2024.

Federal Express' N886FD

Federal Express' latest "Panda Express" special-liveried cargo jet is making a stop at HNL today. N886FD "Amara" (c/n 41065, l/n 1041, f/n 886), a 777-FS2, had panda decals applied to both sides of the forward section earlier this month, as pandas were flown between IAD and CTU. N886FD arrived from MEM this morning as FDX1413, and is scheduled to fly to OAK as FDX1800 later this afternoon.

Federal Express' N120FE

Federal Express sent one of their 767-3S2Fs, N120FE "Brianna" (c/n 44380, l/n 1081, f/n 120), for training, in anticipation of their 767-3S2F fleet to replace the MD-11s that fly here. This 767 will be used for ETOPS certification, and as a trainer for the HNL station ground crews. It's arrived this afternoon from MEM as FDX9202, and will continue onto ANC tomorrow.

FedEx Express' N313FE

FedEx Express' MD-10-30F, N313FE "Bilal" (c/n 48311, l/n 440, f/n 313), is making a fleet substitution on FDX5025 [MEM-HNL] today. It will continue onto LAX as FDX638. It's been quite a while since HNL has had an MD-10 on the south ramp.

N313FE was delivered to FedEx in May 1988, named "Ameyali", as a DC-10-30F. In October 2009, it was reclassified as an MD-10-30.

Federal Express' N614FE

Our May edition of "HNL RareBirds Classic" goes back to 1998. with FedEx's MD-11F, N614FE "Christy Allison" (c/n 48258, l/n 507, f/n 614), seen above on Taxiway RT.

N614FE was delivered to Federal Express in November 1992. It was originally ordered by American Airlines as N1759, but was not taken up. This MD-11F continues to fly with FedEx, with the aircraft's name shortened to "Christy".
