Hawaiian Airlines To End Three Routes

Citing under performance in three routes, Hawaiian Airlines announced today that FUK-HNL, BOS-HNL, and ICN-HNL are ending in November. FUK and BOS services ends on 19 November, and ICN service ends on 21 November. The A330-243s will be dispatched on other routes.

Hawaiian To Suspend TPE Service

Hawaiian Airlines announced today that they are suspending its thrice-weekly service between HNL and TPE from early April 2014. The last HAL807 will be on 06 April 2014, and the last HAL808 will be on 07 April 2014. The A330-243s will be re-assigned to the ICN service, as it will be up-gauged to a five-times-per-week service.

United Edges Out HND Slot Over Hawaiian

The US Department of Transportation has awarded the HND slot vacated American Airlines, to United Airlines, which will serve the downtown Tōkyo airport from SFO. Hawaiian Airlines also applied for a second HND route, that would have began direct service between HND and KOA.

American had won one of the four original HND slots, with service between JFK-HND. The service ended this past December.

Hawaiian To Suspend FUK Route

Hawaiian Airlines announced this morning that they will be suspending their 767-300ER service to Fukuoka, Japan, citing insufficient passenger growth.

Island Air To Cancel MKK

Island Air announced today that they will be discontinuing service to MKK on 01 April 2014. This will leave ‘Ohana by Hawaiian and Mokulele Airlines as the main air service for MKK.

‘Ohana Commences Ticket Sales

‘Ohana by Hawaiian launched ticket sales today for their ATR42-500 service to MKK and LNY. The launch for MKK is scheduled for March 11th, and the LNY launch scheduled for March 18th, both pending government approval.

Air China Launches PEK-HNL Service

Air China inaugurated service between PEK and HNL today. The thrice-weekly service, CCA837 [PEK-HNL] and CCA838 [HNL-PEK], is flown by their A330-243s. According to Hawai‘i News Now video, B-6070 (msn 750) made the inaugural flight.

Hawaiian To Launch OGG-LAX Service

Westjet's Annual 757 Service

For the third year in a row, Westjet has leased 757-200s from Thomas Cook to supplement its flights to Hawaii from Calgary [YYC] and Edmonton [YEG]. Seen above is G-FCLJ (c/n 26160, l/n 555) operating as WJA3008/3009 from YYC.

Hawaiian Adds Fourth Flight To BNE

With the overwhelming success of their HNL-BNE service, Hawaiian Airlines is upgrading to four weekly flights, which will add an additional 20,000 seats annually.

Mokulele Seeks To Operate From JRF

Mokulele Airlines is seeking to start Grand Caravan service to their Neighbor Island destinations in their route network from JRF. The airline would need governmental approval, and community support from those who reside in the Kalaeloa and Kapolei areas.

Hawaiian Renews HND-KOA Application

Hawaiian Airlines will refile their application Thursday, with the US Department of Transportation for a second slot at HND, for A330-243 service to/from KOA. They are bidding for the slot that American Airlines is returning the US DoT.

Hawaiian To Add LAX Service To KOA And LIH

Hawaiian Airlines announced today that they will expand their summer LAX service to/from KOA [Kona, Hawai'i Island] and LIH [Līhuʻe, Kauaʻi], with service commencing in June 2014, and will run for three months. Hawaiian will use their 767-300ERs for the three-times per week flights between KOA and LAX, and four-times per week flights between LIH and LAX.

Hawaiian Launches Taipei Service

In the wee hours of the morning, Hawaiian Airlines inaugurated thrice-weekly A330-243 service between HNL and TPE, with HAL807. Pre-boarding festivities included a lion dance, Hawaiian music and hula by the Hawaiian Airlines Serenaders, and remarks by Governor Neil Abercrombie and V.C. Chu, of the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office, and Hawaiian's CFO Peter Ingram.

We were unable to attend the event.

WestJet Expands Hawai‘i Service

WestJet Airlines announced today that they will be expanding to daily service on their YVR-KOA and YVR-LIH flights, that will begin in December.

Thomson To Hawai‘i?

Thomson Airways hinted that Hawai‘i (along with Australia and South Africa) could be one of their new 787 Dreamliner destinations within a few years.

Island Air Says Aloha ‘Oe To JHM

Island Air bid farewell to JHM today. MKU514 made the last in-bound flight that arrived at 1633HST, and MKU515 departed JHM at 1712HST. As the Dash8 fleet is being replaced by their new ATR72s, and with no ATR42s on the horizon, the airline decided to close their Kapalua Airport Station, and will concentrate their Maui operations at OGG.

Pacific Wings To Close Hawai‘i Operations

Hawai‘i News Now announced on tonight's 10:00P broadcast that Pacific Wings will be closing down their Hawai‘i operations on June 15th. For some time, their operations had been scaling down. Their Cessna 208B Grand Caravans will probably be moved to their other mainland operations. The airline has not made a formal announcement, but employees have told our sources that they were given termination notices effective on June 15th. Their website is also not taking reservations past the same date.

As seen above with N302PW (msn 208B0984), much of their local Caravan fleet has been repainted in to this generic livery. Gone are the colorful liveries that adorned the five Caravans when they began operations in Hawai‘i.

New Japan Airlines Flight Numbers

If you have not noticed, Japan Airlines has changed the flight numbers for its HNL flights from NRT, NGO, and KIX.  The changes listed below were effective from March 31.

  • JL786/JL785 (new)
  • JL74/JL73 (old)
  • JL784/JL783 (new)
  • JL72/JL71 (old)
  • JL782/JL781 (new)
KIX
  • JL78/JL77 (old)

  • JL84/JL83 (old)
  • JL794/JL793 (new)
The HND flight number has not changed and remains JL80/JL89.
