Delta Downguages West Coast To A321neos

Delta Air Lines has downguaged all but one of their west coast (SEA and LAX) flights to the islands to their A321-271NXs. The one remaining west coast flight, DAL480 (LAX), which applies to both segments, is served by their 767-300ERs.

Delta's flights from SLC, ATL, DTW, MSP, and JFK to HNL are continued to be served by their wide-body fleet.

Delta joins Hawaiian Airlines and American Airlines with A321neo service between the west coast and the Hawaiian Islands.

Asia Pacific Airlines has been cleared to resume service with a proving flight today by N688SL as MGE900. Itʻs scheduled to make its first revenue flight in three months, tomorrow, to PPG.

N888LT and N757QM remain at GUM on their south ramp. N922TS remains in storage at SFB, along with their fifth (as yet to enter service) 757, N931AB.

Southwest Airlines is unveiling a Hawai‘i-themed 737-8 today. N8710M (c/n 42567, l/n 6188, f/n 8710) is making its debut flight from LGB as SWA8726, and due at HNL this afternoon. It will make flights to all five Hawai‘i airports that Southwest serves, and is dedicated the communities the airline serves, and their employees here.

Western Global Airlines' MD-11F, N546JN (c/n 48546, l/n 589, f/n 546), is flying cargo between HNL and GUM for United Airlines,  to cover for the suspended Asia Pacific Airlines. The twice-weekly HNL-GUM flights are flown as WGN546, and the return flight is flown as WGN9546.

Two Chinese Airlines To Resume 737-8 Deliveries

CH-Aviation.com reports that China Southern Airlines and China Eastern Airlines will both resume deliveries of the 737-8s they have on order, and are in short-term storage. China Southern is set to take delivery of 37 airframes this year, and China Eastern is set to take delivery of two this year. No timetable has been set as to when the delivery flights will begin.

Pacific Air Charters Orders Two P2012s

Pacific Air Charters ordered two Tecnam P2012 Travellers to add to their fleet, for their inter-island charter operations. Delivery is expected in July 2023. The airline also holds options for 23 additional P2012s, and it's not known if those on options will directly replace PAC's current fleet.

Pacific Air Charters will become the second airline in Hawai‘i (along with Mokulele) to have P2012s in the fleet.

Lion Air's PK-LRI

Lion Air is taking delivery of PK-LRI (c/n 42987, l/n 6250) today. This 737-9 is making its delivery flight from BFI to CGK, via HNL and GUM, as LNI1. It will make a brief fuel stop at HNL. This is one of the first 737-9s off of the Boeing production line, and had been used as a test aircraft for the past five years.

Mokulele To Increase MKK and LNY Service

Mokulele Airlines announced that they will increase service to MKK and LNY. They will add a third Saab SF340B to the two they have in service. They will also add three Tecnam P2012 Traveller nine-seat twin-turboprops (see following paragraph), as some of their Cessna C208B Grand Caravans go in for maintenance and repaint. The registration of the third SF340B has not been disclosed.

On a related note, Marianas Southern Airways is terminating its service in the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas Islands (CNMI) due to the government's cancellation of its contract with the airline. The three P2012s, N401CJ (049/US), N503SA (041/US), and N504SA (048/US), will be transferred to Mokulele, and used as reserve aircraft, as well as for private charters.

Boeing announced today that Japan Airlines has ordered 21 737-8s to replace their current 737-846s. Deliveries are scheduled to begin in 2026. As with most of the previous JAL 737 deliveries, they should be making a stop at HNL on delivery.

This SkyCourier is also the first to be delivered to an airline outside of Fedex’s order for 50.

FJI810 Diversions

For two consecutive days, Fiji Airways A350-900s have made diversions to HNL on their FJI810 route, NAN-LAX. 

Yesterday's diversion, flown on DQ-FAI "Island of Viti Levu" (msn 299), made a medical diversion for an ill passenger.

Today's diversion, flown on DQ-FAJ "Island of Vanua Levu" (msn 320), pictured above, made an unspecified technical diversion.

Both diversions lasted about two hours.

This is the TNI-AU's first of five C-130Js to be delivered of the five that was ordered, and will be assigned to 31 Skuadron.

Simple Flying reports that Alliance Airlines will acquire 30 ERJ-190ARs from AerCap, with the first jet to be delivered in September, and the last of the group to be delivered by the end of 2025. The 30 ERJ-190ARs are currently leased to jetBlue Airways. It's not known how many of the 30 will be designated for its own flights, or to operate for QantasLink.

It's making its delivery flight from BFI to MCY [Maroochydore / Sunshine Coast, Marcoola, Queensland, Australia] (via HNL and NAN) as BNZ4, and will overnight at HNL. This 737-8 was originally bound for LOT Polish Airlines as SP-LVP, under lease from SMBC, but was not taken up.

Super Air Jet's PK-SAS

Super Air Jet is taking delivery of PK-SAS (msn 3414) today. This A320-232 is making its delivery flight from TUS to CGK (via HNL and MAJ) as SJV2, and make a gas & go stop at HNL.

Mitsubishi Cancels Their SpaceJet Program

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries announced that they are cancelling their SpaceJet program after numerous delays in trying to resolve design flaws and certification delays. The former MRJ90 was to have had orders from All Nippon Airways, as well as SkyWest Airlines and Mesa Airlines in the US. JA23MJ (msn 10003) was captured at HNL in 2016.

FAA Suspends Asia Pacific Airlines' Operating Certificate

The FAA has immediately suspended the Air Operations Certificate of Asia Pacific Airlines this past Wednesday. The FAA noted that there are major discrepancies in the pilot training and certification records. N888LT made a flight on Wednesday morning to GUM as MGE300.

Currently, N688SL is at HNL, N757QM is also at GUM, and N922TS is in storage at SFB.

All Nippon Airways is ferrying JA621A (c/n 40566, l/n 998) from HND to ILN as ANA9432. This 767-381ER is being sold to Cargo Aircraft Management, and will be eventually converted to a freighter. It was delivered to ANA in January 2011.

Kamaka Air's N236KA Crash on Moloka‘i

Kamaka Air's C208BF, N236KA (msn 208B-2034), crashed on approach to MKK early this morning. Thankfully, both pilots were able to walk away from the aircraft. The flight, KMK236, was about 1.5 miles from the MKK's Runway 5.

Qatar Executive's A7-CGD

Qatar Executive's Gulfstream G650ER, A7-CGD (msn 6271), is making a stop at HNL from ICN as QQE263. This G650ER holds the world record for the fastest circumnavigation over both the North and South Poles set in July 2019.

It probably will receive a hybrid livery , like its two other A320s which also were ex-ITA birds.

USMC Activates VMGR-153 at KBay

The US Marine Corps re-commissioned the VMGR-153 "Hercules" at Marine Corps Air Field Kāneʻohe Bay today. The Marine Aerial Refueling Transport Squadron will house 17 KC-130J "Super Hercules", and will be part of Marine Air Group 24 (MAG-24), and the 1st Marine Air Wing (1st MAW). Currently, the first two KC-130Js, 170272 (msn 5925) and 170273 (msn 5926) arrived last month, with the remaining 15 to arrive as new-builds from Lockheed-Martin.

Aloha Air Cargo will be taking delivery their first full-liveried 737-400F, with N405YK (c/n 25267, l/n 2131, f/n 405). This 737-436F will be leased from NAS Aircraft Leasing Company, a division of parent company Saltchuk Resources. It's making its way from YHM, and presently at YVR as NAC9405. No date has been set as to when it will arrive at HNL.

Airways Magazine reports that Hawaiian Airlines is ordering an additional two 787-9 Dreamliners to their existing order of ten. Delivery of their first 787, N780HA (c/n 66428, 1097), is still set for the fourth quarter of this year.

Southwest Airlines' retro-liveried 737-8, N871HK "The Herbert D Kelleher" (c/n 67775, l/n 8405), made its first appearance at HNL today. The desert gold painted 737 arrived from OAK as SWA808, then departed for SAN as SWA393.

N871HK made its first appearance at LIH and OGG (20 Nov 2022), and KOA (22 Nov 2022).

N394BR stopped through HNL this past July, en route to freighter conversion.
