N4244T Ditches In Canal

N4244T (msn 28-7225103), a Piper PA-28-140 Cherokee with three aboard, ditched in the Moanalua Canal that runs under the Interstate H201 freeway, this afternoon. All aboard escaped from the downed Cherokee. The Cherokee is owned by Aircraft Maintenance and Flight School Hawaii.

Alaska's Seattle Mariners Logojet

Alaska Airlines is celebrating the 40th anniversary of Major League Baseball's Seattle Mariners. The airline has affixed commemorative decals on of the airlines' 737-890s, N564AS (c/n 35103, l/n 2099). This 737 will arrive at HNL this afternoon from SAN as ASA895, then go onto OAK as ASA811.

N785MM (msn 19000709), an Embraer Lineage 1000 (ERJ-190 ECJ), owned by MGM Mirage Resorts has made a stop at HNL.

Okay Airways' B-1450

Okay Airways is taking delivery of B-1450 (c/n 61405, l/n 6438) today. The 737-8KF is making its delivery flight from BFI as OKA1450, and will overnight at HNL.

Shandong Airlines' B-1437

Shandong Airlines is taking delivery of B-1437 (c/n 60165, l/n 6465) this morning. The 737-85N is making its delivery flight from BFI as CDG1437, and will overnight at HNL.

American Airlines' N942UW Damaged

KHON News reports that American Airlines' N942UW (c/n 27807, l/n 662) suffered a gash on the starboard side of its nose, as a truck hit the 757-2B7, as it was being prepped to fly to PHX as AAL675. The flight was canceled.

HNL To Build A380 Gates

Civil Beat is reporting that HDOT will spend $30million to convert two gates to accommodate Airbus A380 flights, specifically All Nippon Airways' decision to use the Super Jumbo on its NRT-HNL flights. This will include adding jet bridges for the A308's upper deck, widening of the parking stands, and terminal improvements. The article did not mention which gates will be modified for ANA's A380 operations, though KHON reports that Gates 29 and 34 will be the gates to be converted to handle A380s.

Presently, Gates 29 and 34 have guidelines for A380s, but are only used to handle an A380 on an emergency basis. Qantas Airways A380s have made medical and technical stops at HNL.

With ANA based in the Diamond Head Concourse, and the A380 gates will be on the ‘Ewa Concourse, it appears that ANA will need to move across the airport.


Hainan Airlines' B-7400

Hainan Airlines is taking delivery of B-7400 (c/n 43425, l/n 6462) today. The 737-86N, leased from GECAS, is making its delivery flight from BFI as CHH7400, and will overnight at HNL.

N101TU

N101TU (c/n 28404, l/n 130), a former China Airlines 737-809, is ferrying from TPE to VCV, via GUM and HNL, as SXA389. It will make an overnight stop at HNL this afternoon.

 28404 was originally delivered to China Airlines in November 1998 as B-18605. In 2007, the airline had Blended Winglets installed. It was withdrawn from use this past January, and was acquired by Wells Fargo Bank Northwest this month.

Batik Air's PK-LQJ

Batik Air's PK-LQJ (c/n 42988, l/n 6222) is the first 737 MAX8 to make a delivery flight through Hawai‘i. It's making its delivery flight this afternoon from BFI as LNI1, and will make a brief fuel stop at HNL.

AirAsia X Makes Debut Flight To HNL

AirAsia X [D7/XAX] (Malaysia) made its inaugural flight from KUL, with a stop at KIX, today. 9M-XBA (msn 1670), an A330-343, made the first XAX1/XAX2 flight.

The bottom photo of 9M-XBA, taken by KN Aviation, was the return flight to KIX and KUL [XAX2], that departed two hours late.

Boeing Announces 737 MAX 10 Orders

During the Paris Air Show, Boeing announced a number of 737 MAX 10 orders, along with other 737 MAX orders. The following orders should stop through Hawai‘i on their delivery flights. 

Lion Group: 50 MAX 10s
Ruili Airlines: 20 MAX 8s
Xiamen Air: 10 MAX 10s
Donghai Airlines: 10 MAX 10s
Malaysia Airlines: 10 MAX 10s
Okay Airways: 8 MAX 10s, 7 MAX 8s

Of course, this does not cover any MAX 10s that will be leased to carriers that deliver through Hawai‘i.

A Philippine Airlines 777-3F6ER diverted into Honolulu from Vancouver this morning for a tech stop. RP-C7778 (c/n 61730 l/n 1443) departed before noon to continue onto Manila.

United To Increase Service To Hawai‘i

United Airlines announced today that they will increase their Hawaii service on 11 routes to bring the total amount of flights to 40. The increase will begin on December 20th, with seasonal flights to the Neighbor Islands being upgraded to daily in many cases.

AeroMéxico's XA-ADV

AeroMéxico is taking delivery of XA-ADV (c/n 29930, l/n 757), under lease from Aircastle. It's ferrying from CGK to MEX (via NRT and HNL) as AMX8504, and stopped at HNL this evening.

29930 was originally delivered to Ryanair in January 2001 as EI-CSQ, and had winglets installed six years later. In May 2009, it was sold to CIT Aerospace, and leased to Garuda Indonesia as PK-GEO, and three years later sold to Aircastle, and the lease transferred, until this past March.

Prime Air's N1321A

Amazon.com's Prime Air (operated by Atlas Air) is taking delivery of N1321A (c/n 27957, l/n 587), a 767-306ERF. It arrived from HNL from XSP, via GUM as GTI9602.

27957 was originally delivered to KLM Royal Dutch Airlines in July 1995 as PH-BZA"Blauwbrug (Blue Bridge)" (f/n ZA-001), under lease from ILFC. In April 2005, it was leased to Zoom [Z4/OOM] (Canada) as C-GZNA "City of Toronto" (f/n 103). In December 2007, it was transferred to its sister airline in the UK, Zoom Airlines UK [ZX/UKZ] as G-CZNA "City of Brighton and Hove". From March to December 2009, ILFC leased it to Flyglobespan [Y2/GSM] as G-SPNA. In May 2010, it was leased to Nordwind Airlines [N4/NWS] (Russia) as VQ-BPT, and four years later was sold to AerCap, and transferred. In June 2016, it was leased to Atlas Air as N637GT, sent for freighter conversion this past February, and acquired by the airline last month.

Hawaiian To Get A321neos This Year

ATW Online reports that Hawaiian Airlines is on scheduler to receive its first A321neo in October of this year, and should have at least two by the end of the year. However, they will not enter service until sometime in 2018.

Another part of the article reports that the ATR72Fs for ‘Oahan by Hawaiian, are experiencing some issues with a supplier and certification, but hopes to have this new cargo service starting in the third quarter of this year.

N90R (c/n 32775, l/n 889), a 737-7EL BBJ owned by Swiflite Aircraft Corporation, has made a stop at HNL.

N262MA (c/n 28405, l/n 132), a former China Airlines 737-809, is making its way from TPE to GYR, with stops at GUM and HNL. It has been acquired by Contrail Aviation Support [Verona, WI].

28405 was delivered to China Airlines in November 1998 as B-18606. During its time with China Airlines, it had winglets installed in 2007. It also had the airline's 50th anniversary decal added to aft section of the fuselage. This 737-809 was retired this past February, and acquired by Contrail Aviation Support last month.

Bombardier's C-FFDO

Bombardier's testbed CS300, C-FFDO (msn 55002), returned to HNL today. This time the Air Baltic titles have been replaced with Bombardier titles. The CS300 was here last October, as it transited from the mainland to Asia.

Al-Anwa Establishment's HZ-AB3

Our June edition of "HNL RareBirds Classic" goes back to November 1994, and this 727-2U5, HZ-AB3 (c/n 22362, l/n 1657) owned by the Al-Anwa Establishment (Saudi Arabia). It's seen on HNL's South Ramp.

22362 was originally delivered to the Royal Jordanian Government in August 1980 as JY-HNH, as VIP transport. In June 1985, it sold to the Brunei Government as V8-HM1, and re-registered in April 1987 as V8-HM2. In February 1989, it was transferred to Royal Brunei Airlines as V8-BG1. In August 1994, it was bought by the Al-Anwa Establishment as HZ-AB3. A year later, it was converted to a Super 27 with winglets and Valsan conversion kit. It was last photographed in August 2016, and FlightRadar24, has tracked its most recent flight this past February.
