This is the airline's second foray into scheduled service to HNL. In the mid-90s, Sun Country Airlines had DC-10-15 service between LAX and HNL. When the airline re-organized to an all 737NG fleet, the service was terminated. In 2011, Sun Country proposed the same MSP-HNL service (with a west coast stop), but did not materialize.
Normally, Sun Country 737-800s can be seen on HNL's South Ramp, at an FBO, as they fly college sports team charters, or government charters.
