Hawaiian Airlines announced today that they have converted their order of six A350XWB-800 to the recently-announced A330-800neo. According to Airchive.com, that will make Hawaiian the launch customer for the A330-800. Deliveries of the first A330neo is scheduled for 2019, two years later than the delivery time frame for the previously-ordered A350XWB. The order also contains a purchase option for six more A330-800s.

I don't quite understand why Hawaiian did this. Receiving a plane two years later then the XWB? Does this allow for better timing cycles?
The A350XWB-900 is too much airplane for Hawaiian, and Airbus wants to axe the A350XWB-800.
Switching to the A330-800neo also saves Hawaiian money, as the money paid for A350s can be re-directed to the new A330s.
This could also mean a couple of 767-300s may remain with Hawaiian a couple more years longer than expected.
