American Airlines' N400AN

American Airlines' A321-253NX, N400AN (msn 8647), is making an A321neo ETOPS proving flight from LAX as AAL9708 this afternoon, and will return to LAX tomorrow with the same flight number. The American A321neos are slated to replace the 757-200 flights from PHX to the Hawaiian Islands.

China Eastern Airlines is taking delivery of B-209M (c/n 63086, l/n 7432) today. This 737-89P, their third delivery today, is making its delivery flight from BFI as CES799, and will make an overnight stop at HNL.

China Eastern Airlines' B-208Y

China Eastern Airlines is taking delivery of B-208Y (c/n 63082, l/n 7387) today. This 737-89P, their second delivery today, is making its delivery flight from BFI as CES7003, and will make an overnight stop at HNL.

China Eastern Airlines's B-208Z

China Eastern Airlines is taking delivery of B-208Z (c/n 63084, l/n 7382) today. This 737-89P is making its delivery flight from BFI as CES7001, and will make an overnight stop at HNL.

Cebu Pacific Air’s RP-C3629

Cebu Pacific Air is ferrying RP-C3269 (msn 5250) from MNL to the US mainland (via GUM, HNL, and ONT).

RP-C3269 was delivered to Cebu Pacific Air in August 2012, and flew with the airline until March 19th.

United Airlines' N592HA

United Airlines's N592HA (c/n 33468, l/n 898) is making a stop at HNL from GYR as UAL2714, as it ferries to HKG as UAL2715. This 767-3CBER was formerly with Hawaiian Airlines, and named "Hunakai". After its maintenance work in HKG, it will be re-registered as N686UA (f/n 6686).

N496SR

N496SR (c/n 29941, l/n 846), a former TUI Airways 757-236, is ferrying through HNL and SPN, as it ferries from GYR to CTU [Chengdu, China] for freighter conversion for SF Airlines, leased from Sojitz Aircraft Leasing.

29941 was originally delivered to British Airways in May 1999 as G-CPEU under lease from CIT Aerospace. In December 2002, it was leased to Air 2000. Between January 2004 and December 2009, it was leased to First Choice Airways as G-CPEU, and subleased to Skyservice Airlines as C-FLEU. The lease continued when First Choice re-branded as Thomson Airways, then TUI Airways which ended in October 2017. In April 2017, CIT sold this 757-236 to Avolon. Sojitz Aircraft Leasing purchased it in January 2019, and stored it at GYR.

Garuda Indonesia Cancels Remaining 737 MAX 8 Order

In the wake of the two 737 MAX 8 crashes, Garuda Indonesia announced that they will cancel the remaining 49 737 MAX 8s they have on order with Boeing. Only one 737 MAX 8, PK-GDA (pictured above), has been delivered in December 2017.

Southwest Airlines Launches HNL Service

Southwest Airlines is launching their service to HNL with much fanfare both OAK and HNL today, with N8329B (c/n 37006, l/n 4292, f/n 8329) making the first SWA6808.

A celebration was held prior to boarding at OAK, and a media event is planned for the arrival at HNL.

737 MAX Grounding Effect on Hawai‘i

With the global grounding of 737 MAX 8s and MAX 9s, due to the Lion Air and Ethiopian Airlines MAX 8 crashes, the impact to MAX service to Hawai‘i has been minimal.

Here are the MAX flights affected:
Air Canada's two daily flights between YVR and HNL, and YVR and OGG. Both flights have been combined to a 777-300ER (HNL) and a 787-9 (OGG). The airline's flights to KOA and LIH have been cancelled.

United Airlines has MAX 9 flights from SFO to OGG and KOA have been cancelled, as well as LAX to OGG. LAX to KOA has been replaced by a -900ER.

Boeing has also suspended all MAX delivery flights until the grounding is lifted. MAX customer test flights will continue.

Emirates SkyCargo Flights

Emirates SkyCargo begins a weekly 777-F1H cargo flight that will make a fuel stop at HNL, as it transits from ORD to SYD, as UAE9252. A6-EFJ (c/n 35610, l/n 1065) is making the first flight that will arrive around 04:00HST, and depart around 06:00HST.

N830WE

N830WE (c/n 26913, l/n 558), a 767-319ER, is making a ferry flight from ASP [Alice Springs, Australia] to ILN [Wilmington, OH], via HNL, as it has been acquired by Cargo Aircraft Management.

26913 was delivered to Air New Zealand in November 1994 as ZK-NCI. It had Blended Winglets installed in 2009, and was withdrawn from service in March 2017. It was acquired by 30 West, and  ferried to ASP for storage.

N830WE is ferrying from ILN to TLV for freighter conversion.

C-GRGK

C-GRGK (msn 522), a Dash8-202Q, is ferrying from GTF to POM, with stops at CCR, HNL, and MAJ.

522 was originally delivered to UNI Airways in April 1999 as B-17201. It was sold to Regional 1 Airlines in April 2009 as C-GRGK.

SilkAir's 9V-MBF

SilkAir is taking delivery of 9V-MBF (c/n 44250, l/n 7403) today. This 737 MAX 8 is making its delivery flight from BFI as SLK8880, and will make an overnight stop at KOA.

Southwest Airlines Begins Hawai‘i Ticket Sales

This morning, Southwest Airlines announced that they are launching online ticket sales for their new service to Hawai‘i from OAK and SJC. The airline's HNL launch will occur on March 17th from OAK. Service to OGG from OAK will start on April 7th. Service from SJC to HNL starts on May 5th, and to OGG on May 26th. Flights from SMF and SAN, and service to LIH will be announced at a later date.

Shandong Airlines is taking delivery of B-208N (c/n 61447, l/n 7419) this evening. This 737 MAX 8 is making its delivery flight from BFI as CDG9005, and will make an overnight stop at HNL.

Xiamen AIr's B-208L

Xiamen Air is taking delivery of B-208L (c/n 42960, l/n 7411) this evening. This 737 MAX 8 is making its delivery flight from BFI as CXA8199, and will make an overnight stop at HNL.

Shanghai Airlines' B-208M

Shanghai Airlines is taking delivery of B-208M (c/n 61644, l/n 7365) this afternoon. This 737 MAX 8 is making its delivery flight from BFI as CSH9007, and will make an overnight stop at HNL.

China Yunnan Airlines' B-2639

Our March edition of "HNL RareBirds Classic" features China Yunnan Airlines' 737-7W0, B-2639 (c/n 29912, l/n 140), as it made its delivery flight from BFI in December 1998.

B-2639 continues to fly for China Eastern Airlines, as it acquired China Yunnan Airlines [3Q/CYH] in 2003. Since the transfer to China Eastern, it has been painted in the original livery, with the green peacock feather, and the current CES livery. To note the Yunnan division, there are additional Chinese titles on the aft section of the fuselage. In 2011, it had Blended Winglets installed.
