Air Canada And WestJet Airlines Resumes YVR Day Flights

Air Canada resumed its seasonal day flight between YVR and HNL today, ACA517/518, operated with their 737-8 fleet. 


WestJet Airlines also resumed their seasonal 737-8 day flight between YVR and HNL today, WJA1862/1863, today.

Both airlines also resumed service to OGG, and these seasonal services will run through the end of April 2026.

Canadian Carriers Resumes Hawai‘i Service

WestJet began once-weekly service between YVR and HNL, and YVR and OGG in late July with their 737-8s. Air Canada began thrice-weekly service on the two same routes this week, also with 737-8s. The resumption of US international flights from Canada per government approval. The frequencies will increase per demand, and as well as Corona Virus vaccine rates increase.

Canadians Add Extra Flights

Both Air Canada and WestJet Airlines are adding an extra flight each to aid in tourists from Canada wishing to return in advance of Hurricane Lane.

Air Canada is bringing in C-FRSI (c/n 37176, l/n 527), a 787-9, as ACA7071 from YVR. It will return to YVR as ACA2112.

WestJet is bringing in C-FRAX (c/n 60510, l/n 6384), a 737 MAX 8, as WJA8977 from YYC. It will return to YYC as WJA4361.

WestJet Airlines Unveils New Livery

WestJet Airlines unveiled a new livery that will be featured on their ten 787-9 Dreamliners, that will begin deliveries in the first quarter of 2019. New deliveries of their 737 MAX 8 fleet will feature this new livery, beginning in June. The existing fleet will be repainted as they go through their heavy maintenance checks.

WestJet Airlines' C-FRYV

WestJet Airlines has switched from their 767-338ERs to their 737 MAX 8s on their flights between Hawai‘i and the Province of Alberta. C-FRYV (c/n 60514, l/n 6819) made the first flight today from YYC to OGG as WJA1850, and was to fly to YEG as WJA1885, but the flight was diverted to HNL.

WestJet Starts Own 767 Operations to Hawai‘i

WestJet Airlines started their seasonal 767-338ER operations to Hawaii‘ this past Sunday from Canada. C-FOGJ  (c/n 25274, l/n 396) is one of four ex-Qantas 767-388ERs that WestJet acquired to add capacity for it's Hawai‘i network. They also plan to expand to Europe and Jamaica later this year with their 767s.

Omni Air International 767-200s were wet-leased in the beginning of this winter season until Westjet's own 767-338ERs completed ETOPS certifications.

WestJet Announces Its First 767-300ER

According to CH-Aviation.com, WestJet Airlines revealed that a former Qantas 767-338ER, VH-OGJ (c/n 25274, l/n 396) will be their first wide-body airliner. This is the first of four 767-300ERs the Canadian airline will obtain to use for winter service between Alberta and Hawai‘i, and will replace the wet-lease agreement the airline had with Thomas Cook Airlines. It will be registered as C-FOGJ with WestJet.

25274 was delivered to Qantas Airways in October 1991, named "City of Port Macquarie". In October 2002, it was leased to Qantas' new subsidiary Australian Airlines [AO/AUZ], and was there for four years. It was returned to Qantas, then withdrawn from service in October 2014, and stored at VCV. It's currently undergoing maintenance and Blended Winglet installation in Louisiana.

WestJet Adding 767-300ERs

WestJet Airlines announced today that they are adding four 767-300ERs to help with longer flights, like the flights from Calgary and Edmonton to Honolulu and Kahului. This new service is slated to begin in the 2015 winter travel season.

This will be the last winter season the Canadian carrier will wet-lease 757-200s from Thomas Cook Airlines, as they did for the past three winters. In the winter of 2010, WestJet wet-leased a 757-200 from North American Airlines.

WestJet's C-GWSZ

Today's WJA1864/1863 flights to and from Vancouver [YVR/CYVR], WestJet Airlines' operated its newest special livery 737-8CT. C-GWSZ (c/n 37092, l/n 3164), dubbed the "Magic Plane", it wears Disney's Mickey Mouse to promote the good standing between WestJet and the Disney Theme Parks.

Westjet's Annual 757 Service

For the third year in a row, Westjet has leased 757-200s from Thomas Cook to supplement its flights to Hawaii from Calgary [YYC] and Edmonton [YEG]. Seen above is G-FCLJ (c/n 26160, l/n 555) operating as WJA3008/3009 from YYC.

WestJet Expands Hawai‘i Service

WestJet Airlines announced today that they will be expanding to daily service on their YVR-KOA and YVR-LIH flights, that will begin in December.

WestJet Leases Thomas Cook 757s

For the second consecutive winter season, WestJet Airlines is wet-leasing a Thomas Cook 757-2Y0, G-FCLJ (c/n 26160, l/n 555) for its flights from YYC to HNL. WJA3008/3009 [YYC-HNL-YYC] starts its service today. WestJet is also leasing G-WJAN (c/n 28674, l/n 746), which is flying WJA3004/3005 [YYC-OGG-YYC]. G-WJAN was wet-leased for last winter's Alberta-based flights.

Westjet's 757-200 Service

Westjet Airlines [WS/WJA] has leased a 757-200 from Thomas Cook Airlines to provide seasonal service between the Canadian province of Alberta and Hawai‘i. The flights will go between YYC (Calgary) and HNL, YYC and OGG, and YEG (Edmonton) and OGG. These flights will run through April 2012.

G-WJAN (c/n 28674, l/n 746), is the 757-21K that WestJet is sub-leasing from Thomas Cook Airlines (MT/TCX), who leased it from Alcudia Leasing. It's seen above being pushed out to Taxiway Z for engine start.

The YYC-OGG flight (WJA3004/3005) launched yesterday, and will run three times per week. The YYC-HNL (WJA3008/3009) weekly flight begins today, and the YEG-OGG weekly flight begins on the 18th.

WestJet's N750NA

WestJet's N750NA (c/n 26277, l/n 658) made its first flight from YYC as WJA3008 today. The wet-leased 757-28A from North American Airlines, is operating flights from YYC to both HNL and OGG. It made the first flight to/from OGG on Wednesday.

N750NA is seen above rolling out on Runway 26L through the heat haze.

Westjet's Care-antee Logojet


Westjet's "Care-antee" 737-8CT, C-GWSZ (c/n 37092, l/n 3164) makes an appearance in HNL, and is seen climbing out of Runway 8L bound for YVR as WJA1863. This special livery is promoting Westjet's commitment to better customer service, Care-anteed!

WestJet Leases A 752 To Serve OGG & HNL

WestJet Airlines will be leasing a 757-200 from North American Airlines to provide flights between Hawai‘i (HNL and OGG) and the Canadian Province of Alberta (YYC [Calgary] and YEG [Edmonton]). The service will operate between Feb 12, 2011 and April 30, 2011. North American will be supplying the flight, cabin and maintenance crews.

WestJet Care-antee


This past Friday (March 19), WestJet's Care-antee special livery 737-8CT (C-GWSZ) visited HNL. Here it is parked at Gate 23 loading up for its flight back to YVR. The left side says "Care-antee." The right side seen here is in French. This aircraft also has been to OGG, as posted here back on February 20.

WestJet Service From Alberta

WestJet Airlines has inaugurated service from the Canadian province of Alberta. Flights between Calgary (YYC) and Edmonton (YEG) now serve OGG. WestJet just added a YYC-HNL flight this week.

WestJet began service to Hawai‘i from Vancouver, BC (YVR), and recently added Victoria, BC (YYJ).

Winter Island Visitors

Always nice to see a couple of our favorite liveries here in the warm December sunlight.

North American has been operating an "open jaw" charter; something like OAK-OGG-LAX. Seen arriving Thursday for the second time as NA4635; he didn't grab the localizer on the first try.


Westjet has added a seasonal daytime flight YVR-OGG-YVR. Seen landing Thursday as WJA922.
