FAA Suspends Asia Pacific Airlines' Operating Certificate

The FAA has immediately suspended the Air Operations Certificate of Asia Pacific Airlines this past Wednesday. The FAA noted that there are major discrepancies in the pilot training and certification records. N888LT made a flight on Wednesday morning to GUM as MGE300.

Currently, N688SL is at HNL, N757QM is also at GUM, and N922TS is in storage at SFB.

All Nippon Airways' JA621A

All Nippon Airways is ferrying JA621A (c/n 40566, l/n 998) from HND to ILN as ANA9432. This 767-381ER is being sold to Cargo Aircraft Management, and will be eventually converted to a freighter. It was delivered to ANA in January 2011.

Kamaka Air's N236KA Crash on Moloka‘i

Kamaka Air's C208BF, N236KA (msn 208B-2034), crashed on approach to MKK early this morning. Thankfully, both pilots were able to walk away from the aircraft. The flight, KMK236, was about 1.5 miles from the MKK's Runway 5.

USMC Activates VMGR-153 at KBay

The US Marine Corps re-commissioned the VMGR-153 "Hercules" at Marine Corps Air Field Kāneʻohe Bay today. The Marine Aerial Refueling Transport Squadron will house 17 KC-130J "Super Hercules", and will be part of Marine Air Group 24 (MAG-24), and the 1st Marine Air Wing (1st MAW). Currently, the first two KC-130Js, 170272 (msn 5925) and 170273 (msn 5926) arrived last month, with the remaining 15 to arrive as new-builds from Lockheed-Martin.

Airways Magazine reports that Hawaiian Airlines is ordering an additional two 787-9 Dreamliners to their existing order of ten. Delivery of their first 787, N780HA (c/n 66428, 1097), is still set for the fourth quarter of this year.

All Nippon Airways celebrates their 70th anniversary today. The airline began service to HNL in the late 1980s with 747-200Bs, and have gone through Boeing 767-300ERs, 777-200ERs, 777-300ERs, 787-8s, and 787-9s throughout the years. ANA is the only airline to have regularly scheduled Airbus A380 service to HNL.

Elan Express is ferrying N565WW (c/n 30565, l/n 802) from QPG to OPF, via ITO. This 767-3BGERF, owned by Northwest Aviation Leasing (part of the Saltchuk Group), is flying as ELX565. It's not known which Saltchuk subsidiary this 767 will be leased to.

N565WW stopped here in July 2022, on her way for freighter conversion.

Hawai‘i Bowl Team Charters

This year's EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl features the Middle Tennessee State Blue Raiders against the San Diego State Aztecs. They will play on 3:00P Christmas Eve at Ching Field (University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa). Omni Air International 767-300s are brought in the teams from their respective cities this afternoon.

The Aztecs arrived first from SAN aboard N378AX (c/n 28147, l/n 611), a 767-33AER, as OAE208.

The Blue Raiders arrived two hours later aboard N351AX (c/n 27908, l/n 578), a 767-33AER, as OAE182 from BNA.

Hawaiian Airlines' N393HA Hit By Severe Turbulence

Hawaiian Airlines' N393HA "Lehuakona" (msn 1422, f/n 393) was hit by severe turbulence about 30 minutes out of HNL as it was en route from PHX as HAL35. A total of 36 passengers were injured, including eleven that were seriously injured, aboard this A330-243.

N117AA Assisting In Inter-Island Medevac Flights

Corsair Two's Canadair CL-600-2B16 Challenger 604, N117AA (msn 5060), operated by Aero Air, is assisting in inter-island medevac flights during Hawai‘i Life Flight's safety stand-down following the loss of N13GZ and her crew. Aero Air's operation is part of Governor Josh Green's emergency proclamation.

N117AA has been a frequent visitor to HNL as a private charter jet in the past, as seen in this 2017 photo as it sat on the Castle & Cooke Aviation ramp.

Air Med To Fill-in For Hawaii Life Flight

Air Med's small jets will be filling in for Hawai‘i Life Flight while the latter undergoes a safety stand-down following the loss of N13GZ and her crew. Both Air Med and Hawaii Life Flight are part of the Global Medical Response group.

Asia Pacific Airlines has rotated N888LT (c/n 25441, l/n 446) for the USPS contract flights between ONT and GSO. N757QM returned late last night.

N13GZ Crashes Off Maui

Hawaii Life Flight's King Air C90, N13GZ (msn LJ-1590), crashed in the Alenuihaha Channel that runs between Maui and Hawai‘i Island. The King Air departed OGG just after 20:50HAST with three aboard, en route to MUE to pickup a patient. FlightRadar24 playback shows that N13GZ climbed to over 13,000' as made its way around the coastline off Hāna, then descend to a last known altitude of 8,000' off the coastline near Kaupo. FlightRadar24's playback also did not identify the tail number, nor the route.

A George's Aviation Piper PA-44 Seminole, N128AR (msn 44-96218) was in the vicinity of the King Air, and witnessed it going in the water. A US Marine Corps MV-22B Osprey from the VMM-363 Lucky Red Lions, flying as LUCKY41, flew down and orbited the area until US Coast Guard assets arrived on scene. HC-130J 2007 and MH-65D 5648 scrambled out of JRF to the accident area.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the three aboard, their families, co-workers, and the USCG.

N991AB (msn WA-79), a Beech 77, painted in a very similar livery to the US Air Force's Thunderbirds, crashed shortly after take-off at LIH. Both on aboard survived, and were taken to Wilcox Hospital for treatment. According to the FAA Registry, this BE-77 was pending registration to an owner in Koloa, Kaua‘i.

Coulson Aviation is ferrying its 737-300 firebomber, N619SW (c/n 28035, l/n 2762, f/n 139), from TRM [Thermal, CA] to BQB [Busselton, Australia], via ITO, PPG, and XRH for the Australian summer fire season. This 737-3H4 is flying as CUL139, is making an overnight stop at ITO.

RNZAF's NZ4801

NZ4801 (c/n 67017, l/n 9449) is the Royal New Zealand Air Force's first Boeing P-8A Poseidon, and is making its delivery flight from BFI to OHA, via HNL and NAN, as POSIDN1. This P-8A, the first of four, will be assigned to No. 5 Squadron, and these Poseidons will replace the current P-3K Orions.

The National Ocean and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Gulfstream G-IV, N49RF "Gonzo" (msn 1246), is spending a few weeks at HNL for training. This G-IV arrived from LAL (via LGB) as NOAA49, this afternoon.

NASA is deploying N802NA (c/n 83-0502) from PMD to KOA. This C-20A (Gulfstream III) will be making atmospheric test flights over the Mauna Loa volcanic eruption.

Antonov Airlines' UR-82008

Antonov Airlines's UR-82008 (c/n 19530501006, l/n 01-06) is making another stop at HNL, this time from SFB. This An-124-100M-150 is flying as ADB3459.

As part of the 81st Pearl Harbor attack remembrance, Hawaiian Airlines flew in Pearl Harbor survivor Ira "Ike" Schwab and "Rosie The Riveters" Marian Wynn and Marian Souza from Portland (HAL25) aboard N386HA "Heiheionakeiki" (msn 1320), complete with a water cannon salute as the airliner taxied in.

Asia Pacific Airlines' N86425 Sold

Asia Pacific Airlines sold N86425 (c/n 21459, l/n 1329) to JR Aviation Services [Miramar, FL] this past August. This 727-212F is scheduled to ferry to OPF, to prep for delivery to Astral Aviation [8V/ACP](Kenya), where it will join former Asia Pacific N705AA (now 5Y-NIV). Its Kenyan registration has not been issued.

The flight to OPF was diverted back to IGM 20 minutes after departure.

Hawaiian Airlines To Launch Service To Cook Islands

Hawaiian Airlines announced today that they will begin weekly A321-271N service to RAR [Rarotonga, Cook Islands] on 20 May 2023. The Cook Islands are looking to expand tourism from the US, as it is a quite popular tourist destination among New Zealanders and Australians.

This will be the second time Hawaiian has served the Cook Islands. They prior DC-8 service from 1987 to 1993.

Kalitta Air is flying their DHL-liveried 777Fs from CVG to SYD, with a fuel stop at HNL. This service operates several times per week with different flight numbers

Singapore Airlines' 9V-DHA

Singapore Airlines, in partnership with DHL, launched cargo service between LAX and SIN, with a stop at HNL. 9V-DHA (c/n 67140, l/n 1720) is making the inaugural flight as SIA7407. These flights will have rotating flight numbers of SIA7401-7411 (odd numbers only).

All Nippon Airways is taking delivery of JA935A (c/n 66522, l/n 1091) today. This 787-9 is making its delivery flight from VCV as ANA9399. This Dreamliner made its first flight in Mar 2021, and made flights at PAE, CHS, and MWH as N880BA. It was registered as JA935A at VCV, where it was temporarily stored since late September.

VP-COQ

Avolon is ferrying VP-COQ (c/n 40946. l/n 4916) from  TPE to BYH, via GUM, HNL, and SBD. This 737-8MA, was delivered to China Airlines as B-18656 in May 2014, and flew until Jan 2022. It has been sitting in storage since, and now making its lease return flight.

N288CM

Cargo Aircraft Management is ferrying N288CM (c/n 29386, l/n 831) from MZJ to QPG (via ILN, HNL, and GUM) for freighter conversion. It's not known which of their customers this 767-3Q8ER will be assigned to.

N907WS's NCIS: Hawai‘i Cameo

HNL's resident Global Express, N907WS (msn 9176), owned by N907WS Aviation LLC, made a cameo appearance in tonight's episode of NCIS Hawai‘i, "Curtain Call". The scene was filmed at JRF, which was supposed to be somewhere in México.

N907WS was also used in a past episode of "Magnum, P.I."  that was also filmed at JRF.

Antonov Airlines' UR-82008

Antonov Airlines' An-124-100M-150, UR-82008 (c/n 19530501006, l/n 01-06), has made a stop at HNL from PAE. This An-124 has "Be Brave Like Okhtyrka" titles on the nose section.

Maui Invitational Team Charters

Seven of the eight teams playing in this year's Maui Jim Maui Invitational college basketball tournament arrived on team charters at OGG from their respective cities. The teams arrived on Friday and Saturday for the three-day tournament, 21-23 Nov, in Lahaina that began today. The San Diego State Aztecs may have taken a commercial flight from SAN to OGG, and will return via commercial flight. It's possible, that the Aztecs may have shared the flight with Creighton.

CH-Aviation.com reports that Hillwood Airways has begun operating a "members-only" 737-700 charter flight between west coast cities and OGG. Most recently, N737AT (c/n 36756, l/n 2405), 737-7HJC BBJ, operated from BFI to OGG as HWA1322.

Skytrans [QN/SKP](Australia) is taking delivery of C-FNCU (msn 517). This Dash8-311Q, flown by Southern Cross International, is making its delivery flight from YYB to CNS as SXA719, with stops in  CIU, MMV, OAK, HNL, and MAJ.

UNLV Team Charter

The University of Nevada Las Vegas Rebels football team is chartering a Hawaiian Airlines A330-243 for their road trip to play the University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Warriors on Saturday. N390HA "Nāmāhoe" (msn 1389, f/n 390) is making the trip as HAL771.

N52ZX

There is an addition to the Magnum Helicopters fleet with N52ZX (msn 5515). This Eurocopter AS355F2 is being leased from AS355 LLC [Camden, DE], and is painted in a multi-grey camouflage livery. It arrived earlier this week via shipping container, and re-assembled at the Magnum Helicopters hangar.

Air Force 1 Pays Visit To HIK

On his return trip from the G20 Conference in Bali, Indonesia, President Biden aboard Air Force 1, made a quick fuel stop at HIK today. 82-8000 (c/n 23824, l/n 679) was the VC-25A (747-2G4B) to make the flight that made stops in Cambodia and Indonesia.

Southern Receives N334CJ

Southern Airways has taken delivery of its second Saab SF340B, N334CJ "The Phil Trenary" (msn 340B-334), this evening. Still flying under the previous owner's flight code, it made the trek from DUJ to HNL, via LNS, MEM,WCT, TOR, and RNT, as SBS9102.
