Shenzhen's B-5402

Shenzhen Airlines has taken delivery of B-5402 (c/n 35531), a 737-87L(W), and its making its way from BFI to SZX via HNL, MAJ, and SPN, as CSZ5402.

B-5402 is seen above a few hours before departure on the 12th.

UPS 747-400Fs

UPS has put 747-400Fs on UPS076, which flies from ONT to HNL and HKG, then back to ONT via ANC as UPS075. The other flights are primarily handled by MD-11Fs, and 767-34AERFs.

UPS has eight 747-44AFs that are new builds plus two 747-45EMs. The latter pair were acquired from EVA Air (BR / EVA - Taipei), and N578UP (c/n 27154) has undergone its frieghter conversion, while N579UP (c/n 26062) awaits its freighter conversion.

N578UP is seen above being towed to the UPS ramp, after a spot was cleared so it can be loaded for the HNL-HKG leg. It can also be seen in its EVA colors in this Airliners.net photo link.

Mandala's N521NK

Mandala Airlines (RI / MDL - Indonesia) is leasing a former Spirit Airlines (NK/NKS - Miami, FL) Airbus A319-132, N521NK (msn 2797), is being ferried from MIA to CGK (Jakrta, Indonesia), via TUS, HNL, and GUM. Once known as "The Spirit of New York / LaGuardia", N521NK was returned to its lessor, ILFC, and is now being leased by Mandala.

N521NK can be seen in its full Spirit Airlines colors in this Airliners.net link.

USCG HH-65C Down

A Coast Guard Air Station (CGAS) Barbers Point (at Kalaeloa Airport) based US Coast Guard HH-65C Dauphin helicopter crashed off the southern coast of O‘ahu last evening. The crash took the lives of three of the crew members, while a fourth is missing, which occurred during a training mission. There are four Dauphins at CGAS Barbers Point, that are assigned to the Coast Guard's 14th District.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families of the victims. A big thank you for serving and protecting our country, and for their sacrifice for our country.

Air China is taking delivery of B-5398 (c/n 36490), a 737-89L(W). It's continuing onto MAJ and SPN today, before arriving at PEK, as CCA058.

B-5398 is seen above, being prepared for the HNL-MAJ leg by the ground handling crew, about an hour prior to departure.

HANG's 76-0063

A McDonnell-Douglas F-15A "Eagle", 76-0063 (c/n 0249/A215), of the Hawai‘i Air National Guard's 199th FS was enshrined in the Pacific Aviation Museum, located on Ford Island (in Naval Station Pearl Harbor). The retired fighter was transported via barge, from a dock at neighboring Hickam AFB through Pearl Harbor to Ford Island where it will displayed alongside a retired US Navy Grumman F-14 "Tomcat".

Shanghai Airlines is taking delivery of it's next 737-86D(W) flying as CSH369.

JALExpress JA314J

JA314J (c/n 35343) is the 14th 737-846(W) for JAL. It arrived in HNL on its delivery flight on Aug 22nd, and left for MAJ today, Aug 23rd.

Shenzen's B-5401

Shenzhen Airlines' B-5401 (c/n 35530), a 737-87L(W), is on its delivery flight from BFI as CSZ5401, and seen above a few hours after arriving at HNL.

Air China's B-5397

Air China's second delivery in the past week is B-5397 (c/n 36489), a 737-89L(W), that will overnight at HNL as CCA058.

Shanghai's B-5395

Shanghai Airlines is taking delivery of B-5395 (c/n 35770), a 737-86D(W), which is flying as CSH5395, stopped over at HNL today. It was parked in the alleyway fronting the Castle & Cooke Aviation complex and the Cox Aviation hangar.

China Eastern's B-5245

China Eastern Airlines' newest 737-79P(W), B-5245 (c/n 36271), is on its first leg of its delivery flight from BFI as CES789. It's final destination is PVG (Pudong, Shanghai, China), where China Eastern is based.

The flight was listed yesterday on a couple of flight tracking sites, but did not actually fly until today.

Ryan Air's RYN3068

Saw Ryan flight #3068 at Kahului this morning. I think it's routing was KOAK-PHLI-PHOG-PHNL-KONT. It was a white 752 with green tail and engines - no titles. Similar to N526NA on Airliners. Sorry no picture from here.

Lion Air's Newest is PK-LFR

Boeing Construction Number 35719, taxiing after landing on 4R about 10:45 AM. It should be leaving about 1:30 PM for Majuro, then on to Biak (WABB).

Air China' B-5196

Air China took delivery of their next 737-86N, B-5196, which transited through HNL as CCA058. This one is being leased from ILFC.

Drewski2112 got a shot of it at BFI.

Hainan's B-5403

Hainan Airlines next 737-84P(W), B-5403 (c/n 35756) is on its delivery flight to China. It flew to HNL as BOE5403, which is a Boeing flight ID, but used its registration as its flight designator when it left HNL for MAJ and GUM today.

One-Two-Go MD-83

Did anyone catch this bird? According to Flight Aware, it departed from MNL (Ninoy Aquino) and is on its way to Oakland via Guam, MAJ (Marshall Island International), and Honolulu. It had its original registration changed to N530AW (c/n 53050).

QANTASLink Q400 C-FQXU

A shiny new Q400 dropped in today on a delivery flight to Australia. According to the ferry captain, it took 6:51 to get here from Concord, California (KCCR). It'll leave tomorrow for Majuro, a 7:01 flight.

The 0ffice. Smells like a new car!

Kamaka's N145KA

Kamaka Air has upgraded their fleet to the Cessna C208B Super Cargomaster. Registered as N145KA (msn 208B2019), this Super Cargomaster is one of the newest Caravans to have the new upgraded avionics which includes flatpanel LCD displays. N145KA left Kingman Airport - Clyde Cessna Field on July 21st and made stops in ABQ (Albequerque, NM), LGB (Long Beach, CA), VGT (North Las Vegas, NV - for 11 days), back to LGB, then to SMX (Santa Maria, CA) while on its way to HNL. N145KA arrived last night after a 12+ hour flight.

Kamaka's N231H

Kamaka AIr's Beech E-18S, N231H (msn BA-281), has been repainted to match N9796N, their Douglas Super DC-3, and N145KA, their new Cessna Caravan. It was recently painted by the Kamaka Air maintenance staff.

N755NA - Barack Obama's Charter

US Presidential candidate Barack Obama (D) is chartering a North American Airlines 757-28A, N755NA (c/n 30043), and the jet has been painted in special colors for his campaign, with both his slogan and logo. Senator Obama (D-IL) was born in Honolulu, and graduated from Punahou School, and is here with his family to vacation, visit with family living here, and appear at a political fundraiser. It's sort-of a homecoming, and first visit to Hawai‘i since announcing his presidential campaign.

His flight was delayed for over two hours, as thousands waited at nearby Ke‘ehi Park, where Obama was to make an appearance at a rally put on by local supporters, before heading to his hotel.

I wanted to get a photo of the plane, and thought it had already arrived. According to camera crews, they said the flight was late. I found a vantage point where local TV camera crew were waiting, and was allowed to take photos of the arrival alongside them. I did not really care if I got a shot of Obama, I just wanted the plane, and I got it. The press corps exited the aircraft first, and in fact the Obamas' had yet to exit the aircraft when I left, which was about 20 minutes after the plane parked.

A special mahalo to the airport security staff for allowing me to get these shots.

Xiamen Airlines is taking delivery of B-5383 (c/n 35631), their second 737-86N(W) in the past four days. It arrived at HNL from BFI as CXA5383, and will continue onto MAJ tomorrow. B-5383 is seen above in the late afternoon sun.

Xiamen Airlines is taking delivery of B-5382 (c/n 35631), a 737-86N(W), and its making its way toward XMN (Xiamen, China) as CXA5382. It arrived later than most delivery flights, after 1900HST, and should continue onto MAJ tomorrow.

Shandong Ailrines is taking delivery of their newest 737-85N(W), B-5351 (c/n 36194). It's flying through HNL as CDG5351 from BFI, and will continue onto MAJ and SPN, before delivering to TNA (Jinan Airport, Yaoqiang, China).

B-5351 is wearing special titles "Friendly Shandong" to promote the city (above photo).

Southwest To HNL?

Southwest Airlines is exploring options to expand their service to HNL by the end of 2009, with a new code-share partner. Here's The Honolulu Advertiser article link.

Another Garuda Indonesian Airlines 737 delivery flight has stopped off at HNL as GIA8011. It's a 737-300, and it arrived last night from GYR via LAX. The -300 is painted all white, but could not get a decent photo of it, nor get a good look at the registration, though "NW" was on the nose gear door. So my guess is the reg is PK-_NW ...

VP-CBA

Caught this unusual BizJet, VP-CBA (c/n 22628), on Saturday at the "new" Castle and Cooke Aviation ramp area. What a beautiful 737 this is! I especially liked the polished nacelles for the old smokies. I had just enough of the setting sun to catch this expensive toy. What a cool way to spend $55M!

B-52H Down

Various news sources are reporting that a USAF B-52H Stratofortress has gone down about 30 miles off of Guam. The BUFF was based out of Barksdale, Louisiana, and was TDY to Andersen in Guam. Presumably, all six crewmembers aboard are lost. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of the warriors who are now on eternal patrol ...

Air New Zealand's ZK-SUJ

Air New Zealand's flight 1982 from BNE (Brisbane, Queensland, Australia) is bound for HNL this morning, and is a 747-4F6, ZK-SUJ (c/n 27602).

Aloha Jets Moving Around

A couple of Aloha 737-700's were moving around last week. N739AL went from KTUS to KGYR. N738AL went up for 2 hours and returned to KGYR. It attained an altitude of FL 410 which looks like some sort of test flight. Pics are ones I got back in the good old days. I miss seeing these.

Garuda's PK-GEH

Garuda Indonesian Airlines has leased PK-GEH, a former ATA 737-83N(W). It's transiting through HNL as GIA8011. It arrived late last night from LAX. PK-GEH still has remnants of the ATA livery. It will continue onto MAJ then to BIK (Biak Airport, Indonesia).

Qantas' VH-VZE

Qantas Airways' VH-VZE (c/n 34199) "Bunbury", their newest 737-838(W), made its delivery flight through HNL as QFA6020.

Qatar A340 At Kahului

The registration on this A340-211 is A7-HHK (msn 026). It's assigned to the Royal/VIP section of Qatar Airways known as "Amiri Flight." A rare bird indeed; and she's a long way from Doha. It was first spotted this morning, and was still here in the afternoon. It's the first A340 I've seen here.

Qantas' VH-VZD

Qantas Airways' VH-VZD "Geelong" (c/n 34198), their second 737-838(W) to be delivered within the past few days, is making its way Down Under as QFA6020. It's scheduled to arrive at HNL later today.

VH-VZE "Bunbury" (c/n 34199) is also scheduled to be delivered to Qantas quite soon.

Focus Air's N362FC

Focus Air's N362FC, a 747-236SF (c/n 22304), has made a stop at HNL from VCV, and has taken Hardstand 2 on the North Ramp.

N362FC had been previously been with Malaysian Air System and MASKargo as 9M-MHI. 22304 was purchased from British Airways, hence the -_36 Boeing customer designator, and delivered to MAS in 1982, and coverted to a freighter in 1994, then acquired by Focus Air in 2006.

JAL's 13th 737-800

JAL's 13th 737-846(W), JA313J (c/n 35342), is overnighting in HNL tonight. This aircraft is wearing JAL Express titles. It will depart tomorrow, the 21st, for MAJ.

Air China's B-5391

Air China's next 737-89L(W), B-5391 (c/n 36487), arrived at HNL on its delivery flight from BFI as CCA058.

Star Alliance Daily Double

Two Star Alliance airliners were in town today. One was N218UA (c/n 30222), United Airlines Boeing 777-222ER, and the other was JA614A (c/n 33508), All Nippon Airways (ANA) Boeing 767-381ER.

JA614A was here as ANA1052 from NRT as well, and is seen above returning to NRT as ANA1051.

N218UA was parked at Gate 9 arriving from NRT as UAL880. It then moved over to Hardstand 5, where ha763 was able to get a shot of it later in the day. Check out the 10 year decal in front of the 4L door. The Star Alliance had its 10th anniversary in 2007.

China Eastern's B-5376

China Eastern Airlines' B-5376, a 737-800, is making its delivery flight from BFI today, and is HNL-bound.

China Airlines A330-300s

China Airlines has changed equipment on their NRT flight from a 747-400 to A330-300. This change happened a couple of months ago, but this is the first chance I had since the change to go out and get a shot of the aircraft. Their non-stop TPE flight is still an A340-300.

Shanghai Airlines' B-5393

Shanghai Airlines is taking delivery of a 737-86D(W), B-5393 (c/n 35769). It arrived at HNL today, as CSH393.

The Departure Of AQ's Remaining Pax 732s

The remaining passenger 737-200s owned by Aloha are starting to leave HNL for their new homes. Yesterday, June 11, the Funbird (N823AL) departed HNL at 9:00am, destination unknown. N824AL looks like the next one to depart. There has been increased activity in and around the aircraft today with people doing walk-arounds and testing the controls.

Shenzhen Airlines is taking delivery of its newest 737-87L, B-5381 (c/n 35528). It arrived from BFI as CSZ5381, and will leave tomorrow for MAJ.

Hawaiian Leases Four Boeing 717s

Hawaiian Airlines announced that they are leasing four Boeing 717-200s from Boeing Capital, increasing their inter-island fleet to 15 from 11.

According to sources, these four 712s are ex-JetStar / Impulse Airways (Australia) birds, with the first due to arrive in September.

Another HNL Blast From The Past

This time, a rare view of the John Rodgers airport and what is now called the south ramp. Four Pan Am 707s, a United DC-8, an Aloha DC-3 and two F-27's grace the ramp in front of the original iconic Honolulu Tower emblazoned with the word Aloha. This photo is circa 1960 - 1962.

Qantas' VH-VZB

Qantas Airways is taking delivery of VH-VZB "Lake Macquarie" (c/n 34196), their newest 737-838(W), as it arrived at HNL today as QFA6020.

New Website For Hawaii Aviation History

It the State of Hawaii DOT is creating a new website showcasing the history of aviation in Hawaii. Below is the link to the beta website.

The most amazing part of the website is the huge collection of photos (over 4000) going all the way back to 1910! You can see the evolution of HNL from when it opened as John Rodgers Field, the construction of the current terminals, construction of the Reef Runway, as well as all the other Hawaii airports. As it being a beta site, there are some mistakes in the indexing and caption of the photos, such as having photos of the old Center Concourse captioned as photos from 1995.

N751AL To Sun Country Airlines

Former Aloha Airlines 737-7Q8(W), N751AL (c/n 30674), has been leased by Sun Country Airlines (SY/SCX) from ILFC for their summer schedule.

Mega Global Airway to HNL?

Chinese charter airline Mega Global Airway has announced its intention to fly between the People's Republic of China and HNL with 767-200ERs and 767-300ERs beginning in July. It marks the first direct flights between China and Hawai‘i.
