40 Years Of The 757

On this day, 40 years ago, Boeing's first 757-200 made its maiden flight out of RNT.  Since then 1,050 757s (both -200s and -300s) have been built. Currently, Asia Pacific Airlines, Air Transport International, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines operate 757 to/from Hawai‘i.

Eastern Airlines' N705KW

Eastern Airlines is using N705KW (c/n 24342, l/n 363, f/n 705) for ETOPS certification. The original flight by this 767-336ER, EAL9801 [JFK-HNL], was diverted to OAK on 16 February. It's making the ETOPS flight this evening from OAK as EAL9802.

Apr 1991: Delivered to British Airways as G-BNWJ "City of Athens".

Jly 2000: Acquired by Qantas Airways as VH-ZXD.

Jly 2013: Withdrawn from service, and stored at PVG.

Jun 2014: Acquired by Jet Midwest as N793JM.

Mar 2015: Acquired by KMW Leasing, and ferried to MCI for storage.

Jly 2017: Leased to Dynamic Airways.

Mar 2018: Renamed to Eastern Airlines, and acquired N793JM.

Jun 2018: Re-registered as N705KW.

21 Feb 2022 UPDATE

It will return to the mainland as EAL9900 to MIA.

Korean Air's HL8068

Korean Air Business Jet's Gulfstream G650ER, HL8068 (msn 6199), is making a stop at HNL from DAL as KAL9052. This G650ER is one of three aircraft, also a Global Express XRS, and a Boeing BBJ, in the business jet fleet that offers private charter services.

Silk Way West Airlines' VQ-BBH

Silk Way West Airlines' VQ-BBH (c/n 62708, l/n 1530) is making a brief fuel stop from ORD as AZG4033. This 747-83QF is continuing onto BNE.

Singapore Airlines' 9V-MBK

Singapore Airlines is taking delivery of 9V-MBK (c/n 44255, l/n 7688) today. This SilkAir liveried 737-8 is making its delivery from PAE as SIA8890, and will make an overnight stop at HNL, before continuing on to GUM, then SIN.

9V-MBK made its first flight in Aug 2019, but due to the MAX series groundings, it was placed in storage at MWH. It was ferried to BFI last December, then PAE at the beginning of this month.

Garuda Indonesia's N452AC

Garuda Indonesia is returning one of their 737-86Ns to lessor Aircastle. N452AC (c/n 36808, l/n 3505) is ferrying from KUL to CWF, via GUM,  HNL, and IAH.

37887's History:

Dec 2010: Delivered to Garuda Indonesia as PK-GFL, under lease from GECAS.

Mar 2011: Sold to CDB Aviation, and lease transferred.

Dec 2018: Sold to Aircastle, and lease transferred.

Aug 2021:  Withdrawn from service, and stored at CGK.

Dec 2021: Ferried to KUL for storage.

N379BR

N379BR (c/n 29379, l/n 919), a 757-2G5 owned by Black Rock, is ferrying from GYR to XMN for freighter conversion. The ferry flight is being operated by Elan Express as ELX379, and is making a stop at HNL, then GUM. This 757 will be bound for CargoJet Airways after conversion.

Oct 2001: Airline renamed as Belair, HB-IHR sold to ILFC and leased back, and named "Solemar".

Alaska Airlines' N932AK Makes Hawai‘i Visit

On 05 January, Alaska Airlines unveiled its Orca-themed "West Coast Wonders" 737-9, N932AK (c/n 44089, l/n 8163, f/n 932), with its first revenue flight from SEA to ANC. On 22 January, N932AK made its first appearance at HNL from SEA as ASA896. This morning, we captured the orca-liveried 737-9 as it departed for SEA as ASA942.

Batik Air’s VP-CKJ

Nomadic Aviation is ferrying a former Batik Air A320-214, VP-CKJ (msn 8354), from CGK to MLB, via KUL, GUM, HNL, and PHX. It’s flying as OMD552, and being returned to the Aviation Capital Group.

Jly 2018: Delivered to Batik Air as PK-LZI, under lease from the Aviation Capital Group.

Jan 2021: Withdrawn from service, and stored at CGK.

JA708A

JA708A (c/n 28277, l/n 278), a former All Nippon Airways 777-281ER, is ferrying from HND to MHV, via HNL, as ANA9431. It will be placed into storage at MHV.

This 777-281ER was delivered to ANA in May 2000, and was withdrawn from service in February 2021.

Cebu Pacific's RP-C3264

Cebu Pacific is returning RP-C3264 (msn 4852) to its lessor, Arena Aviation Capital. This A320-214 is making its ferry flight from MNL to GUA [Guatemala City, Guatemala], via GUM, HNL, and ONT. It's scheduled to be leased to Avianca.

4852's History:

Sep 2011: Delivered to Cebu Pacific Air as RP-C3264.

Jun 2016: Repainted in the Cebu Pacific re-brand livery.

Jly 2018: Sold to Arena Aviation Capital, and leased back.

Jly 2021: Withdrawn from service, and stored at MNL.

Japan Airlines' JA009D

Japan Airlines is ferrying JA009D (c/n 27641, l/n 159) from NGO to VCV, via HNL. Sadly, this 777-289, flying as JAL8132, is due to be parted out and scrapped.

Sep 1998: Delivered to Japan Air System (JAS) in the Akira Kurosawa livery.

Apr 2004: Acquired by Japan Airlines Domestic, and painted into the "Arc of the Sun" livery.

Jly 2006: Painted in the Tamagotchi special livery.

Oct 2006: Integrated into the mainline Japan Airlines fleet.

Jun 2010: Special decals for the Softbank Hawks NPB baseball team added for 1 month.

Nov 2012: Painted into the current livery.

Feb 2021: Withdrawn from service. and stored at ITM.

Jan 2022: Ferried to NGO.

Mokulele Airlines' N183GC

Southern Airways Express has transferred N183GC (msn 208B1210) to Mokulele Airlines fleet. This Cessna C208B Grand Caravan is wearing the Southern Airways livery, but has Mokulele titles added, and has begun service today with a flight from KOA to OGG.

N183GC was ferried to KOA from SMX on 14 January. Prior to arriving in Hawai‘i, it was part of the Southern/Mokulele SoCal EAS flights between IPL and LAX.

Air Archipels N303BZ

Air Archipels, a private charter subsidiary of Air Tahiti, is taking delivery of N303BZ (msn BZ-3). This Beechcraft B200CGT King Air 200 is making its delivery flight from MCE to PPT, via HNL.

This brand-new King Air 200 was built in July 2021. It was ferried from ICT to MCE, via COS this past December.

QantasLink's N951UW

Alliance Airlines is taking delivery of their second QantasLink-liveried ERJ-190AR in less than a week. N951UW (msn 190000112) is making its delivery flight from SJO to BNE, via SDM, HNL, and MAJ, as UTY9100.

Sep 2007: Delivered to US Airways as N951UW (f/n 951).

Dec 2013: Integrated into the American Airlines fleet.

Mar 2020: Withdrawn from service, stored at PIT, then ferried to ROW a month later.

Dec 2020: Acquired by Jetran.

D-AAEP

ST Resources is ferrying D-AAEP (msn 1199) from XSP to SAT, via GUM and HNL. This A321-231 is heading for freighter conversion.

Alliance Airlines will operate a portion of their fleet on behalf of the QantasLink system.

Ukraine Air Alliance An-12s

It appears that the Ukraine Air Alliance An-12s will continue to transit through HNL for the time being. UR-CNT and UR-CGV will stop off as they fly between ELP and SGN. The US west coast stop will be either at SBD or OAK. MAJ and GUM will continue to be the other Pacific island stops.

Alliance Airlines' N953QQ

Alliance Airlines is taking delivery of its next ERJ-190AR,  N953QQ (msn 19000053). It's making its delivery flight from SJO to BNE, via SDM, HNL, and MAJ, ferried by Southern Cross International as SXI2204.

Delta Air Lines' Team USA-liveried A330-941, N411DX (msn 1991, f/n 3411), is making its first appearance at HNL with this special livery today. It arrived from SEA as DAL450, and will return tomorrow as DAL440.

N830KW

N830KW (c/n 30870, l/n 374), a former Singapore Airlines 777-212ER is making its ferry flight from ASP to MCI (via BNE and HNL). It's due to arrive in the overnight hours. This "Triple" is most-likely bound for Eastern Airlines.

Nov 2001: Delivered to Singapore Airlines as 9V-SVE.

Mar 2020: Withdrawn from service.

Apr 2020: Ferried to ASP for storage.

Nov 2021: Acquired by Jet Midwest.

Japan Airlines' JA8979

Japan Airlines is ferrying JA8979 (c/n 27638, l/n 107) from NGO to VCV, via HNL, as JAL8132. This 777-289 is being retired by JAL, and is headed for storage.

N950TR (c/n 30751, l/n 401), a 737-7CG BBJ owned by Ohio Resources LLC, has stopped off at HNL. This BBJ is used by motivational speaker Tony Robbins, and his initials are on the tail, and his signature is by the left main entry door.

This BBJ was previously P4-SJM that stopped here in November 2016.

ANA Cargo's JA605F (c/n 30842, l/n 860), a 767-316F with "Okinawa" titles and a "Yamato Group" logo, made a stop at HNL on its ANA8482/8481 service between NRT and HNL. It's been here a few times previously, but we were able to get a photo of it today.

Singapore Airlines' 9V-MBJ

Singapore Airlines is taking delivery of 9V-MBJ (c/n 44254, l/n 7632) today. This 737-8, still wearing the SilkAir livery, is making its delivery flight from BFI as SIA8890, and will overnight at HNL.

Malindo Air's VP-CFQ

Castlelake is having a former Malindo Air 737-9GPERs ferry from SZB to SBD, via GUM and HNL, as it will join the Delta Air Lines fleet. VP-CFQ (c/n 38729, l/n 4380), and it will overnight at HNL.

LATAM Airlines Chile is ferrying CC-CXK (c/n 37802, l/n 978) from MIA to SIN for freighter conversion. This 767-316ER, still in the LAN Chile livery, is making its ferry flight as LAN9954, and is making an overnight stop at HNL.

Memphis Tigers Team Charter

The University of Memphis Tigers football team chartered an Omni Air International 767-33AER, N351AX (c/n 27908, l/n 578, f/n 351) for their trip to HNL, to play the University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Warriors, in the EasyPost Hawai‘i Bowl on December 24th. The Tigers arrived from MEM as OAE8614. This 767-33AER will not stay at HNL, but departed for AFW (with the same flight number) shortly after arrival.

Aug 1995: Delivered to Alitalia as G-OITF, under lease from AWAS.

Nov 1996: Re-registered as I-DEIF "Cristoforo Colombo".

Aug 2009: Leased to Omni Air International as N351AX.

Sep 2019: Acquired by CAM, and lease transferred.

Batik Air’s VP-CJO

The second Batik Air A320-214 that Nomadic Aviation is ferrying from ASP to MLB (via BNE, MAJ, HNL, and PHX), is VP-CJO (msn 6697). It’s a lease return flight for Aviation Capital Group, flying as OMD549, and will overnight at HNL.

Japan Airlines is ferrying JA773J (c/n 27653, l/n 635) from NGO to VCV (via HNL), as JAL8130. This 777-246, wearing the “Tokyo 2020 / Fly For It” special livery, has been sold to an undisclosed buyer.

Castlelake is having a former Batik Air 737-9GPER ferry from CGK to SBD, via GUM and HNL, as it will join the Delta Air Lines fleet. VP-CFT (c/n 38731,  l/n 4463) will overnight at HNL.

N829KW

N829KW (c/n 28526, l/n 355), a 777-212ER acquired for Eastern Airlines by Jet Midwest, is making its way from ASP to MCI, via BNE and HNL. It's making an overnight stop at HNL tonight, and is still wearing the Singapore Airlines livery.

Aug 2001: Originally delivered to Singapore Airlines as 9V-SVC.

Aug 2010: Leased to Royal Brunei Airlines as V8-BLE.

Another Batik Air 737-9GPER, VP-CFH (c/n 38689, l/n 4441), is being ferried from CGK to SBD (via GUM and HNL) by Castlelake for its lease to Delta Air Lines. It will be registered as N942DC.

Singapore Airlines' 9V-MBH

Singapore Airlines is taking delivery of 9V-MBH (c/n 44252, l/n 7521) today. This 737-8, still wearing the SilkAir livery, is making its delivery flight as SIA8890, and is making an overnight stop at HNL.

Antonov Airlines' UR-82008

Aloha Air Cargoʻs Parent Looks To Upgrade Fleet

Aloha Air Cargo‘s parent company, Northern Aviation Services, is looking into upgrading its 737-300F and -400F fleet for both Aloha and Northern Air Cargo. In a CH-Aviation article, the holding company is looking into 737-700Fs, 737-800Fs, and even ATR-Fs as fleet renewal aircraft. It's currently just an exploratory phase.

Lāna‘i Air To File For Scheduled Service

Lāna‘i Air's parent company Pulama Lāna‘i and operator Western Aircraft, filed an application with the US DOT to fly scheduled commuter service between HNL and LNY. The charter company will dedicate two of their PC-12 fleet (N92NG and N439CM) for this proposed service.

Silkway West Airlines' VQ-BVB

A Silkway West Airlines 747-8F, VQ-BVB (c/n 44444, l/n 1493), is making at fuel stop at HNL, as it flies from GYD to MEL, via ORD and HNL as AZG5982.

Philippine Airlines' RP-C8765

Philippine Airlines is ferrying RP-C8765 (msn 1559) from MNL to MZJ, via HNL, on a lease return to DVB Bank. This A330-343 is making its ferry flight as PAL5002, and will make a brief fuel stop at HNL.

Allegiant Air's RP-C3266

Allegiant Air is taking delivery of RP-C3266 (msn 4870), as it makes its delivery flight from MNL to MLB, leased from CDB Leasing. This A320-214 is making stops at GUM, HNL, and ONT, and arrived here early this morning.

Batik Air's VP-CIC

Castlelake is having another Batik Air 737-9GPER ferried from CGK to SBD, via GUM and HNL. VP-CIC (c/n 38742, l/n 4726) is making its ferry flight to join the Delta Air Lines fleet. It arrived this morning at HNL.

Jun 2021: Withdrawn from service, and stored at CGK.

Nov 2021: Acquired by Castlelake, ferried to SBD for lease to Delta Air Lines as N953DC.

Singapore Airlines' 9V-MBG

Singapore Airlines is taking delivery of 9V-MBG (c/n 44251, l/n 7436) today. This 737-8 is making its delivery flight from BFI to SIN as SIA8890, with stops at HNL and GUM. It was built in February 2019, and was one of the early birds that were affected by the global grounding of the MAX series, as it made its first flight on 09 Mar 2019. It was ferried to Moses Lake, WA [MWH] for storage during the grounding, and returned to BFI in October 2021.

9V-MBG was originally ordered by SilkAir, but was transferred to the Singapore Airlines (along with the eight on order), as SilkAir's operations were merged with its parent company this past January. Previous photos show that MBG was painted in SilkAir's livery, and it has yet to be painted in the Singapore Airlines livery.

Bangkok Air's VP-CUB

Leasing company Avolon is having VP-CUB (msn 2362) ferried from DMK to HDO [South Text Regional Airport, Hondo, TX] via GUM and HNL. This A319-132 is still wearing the Bangkok Air livery.

Avolon is having OE-IMY (msn 3986) ferried from SBD to CRK, and this A320-232 is making an overnight stop at HNL, then will continue onto GUM.

Normally, US Air Force aircraft do not park on the hardstands at HNL. If they aren't able to park at HIK, they are assigned to park at JRF. However, in this instance a C-130J, 05-1435 (msn 382-5722) from the 143rd Airlift Wing, Rhode Island Air National Guard, parked at Hardstand 188B during its stay at HNL. It arrived this afternoon from PMD.
