204th Airlift Squadron’s 05-5151 Performs Flyover

05-5151 (c/n P-151) of the 204th Airlift Squadron performed a flyover prior to the University of Hawai’i Rainbow Warriors game against the Utah State Aggies to honor veterans on this Veteran’s Day weekend. The flight was crewed by both Hawai’i Air National Guard (154th Wing) and US Air Force (535th Airlift Squadron / 15th Wing) personnel. One of the pilots was Major Britton Komine, who also played wide receiver for the Rainbow Warriors (2001-04).

Bonza Airline's VH-UIK

Bonza Airline is taking delivery of their second 737-8, VH-UIK (c/n 43975, l/n 7516) today. It's flying from YYC to MEL, via HNL and NAN, as BNZ2. VH-UIK had been ferried to YYC from BFI on September 29th for cabin modifications as BNZ2. This 737-8 still has the LOT Polish Airline logo and colors on the upper half of its winglets, as it would have been SP-LVH.

Batik Air Malaysia's 9M-LRP

Today, Batik Air Malaysia is taking delivery of their second 737-8 in five days. 9M-LRP (c/n 43014, l/n 7704) is making its delivery flight from BFI as MXD2, and will overnight here before continuing onto GUM, then KUL. This 737-8 was transferred from Lion Air, and has "Operated by Batik Air" titles under the Lion word mark.

Frontier Airlines To Hawai‘i?

In an interview with Routes Online, Frontier Airlines CEO Barry Biffle mentioned in passing that Hawai‘i could be on the airline's route network (along with Europe and South America) when they begin receiving their order of 18 A321NXLRs beginning in 2026. The airline has been exploring the possibility of long-haul over-ocean flights for the XLRs, with 4,500+ nm range.

Frontier is in the process of converting its A320 and A321 fleets from the CEO (Current Engine Option) to the NEO (New Engine Option) versions. Their newest A321-271NX, N603FR "Fredrick the Bald Eagle" (msn 11032), has their new tag line, "America's Greenest Airline".

Hawaiian To Operate A330Fs for Amazon Prime Air

Hawaiian Airlines announced that they will operate and maintain a fleet of A330-300F freighters for Amazon Prime Air. The flights, slated to begin in 2023, will be flown by Hawaiian's flight crews, and will even open crew bases on the mainland.

These A330-300Fs, initially a fleet of ten leased from Altavair, will be passenger-to-freighter converted aircraft. The routes flown by Hawaiian have yet to be disclosed, nor is it known if it will it affect the current Amazon Prime Air Hawai‘i operations by Atlas Air and Air Transport International.

Luna Jet's N750FR Makes Cameo in NCIS Hawai‘i

Luna Jet's Falcon 50, N750FR (msn 098), made an appearance in tonight's episode of the CBS TV serial, "NCIS Hawai‘i". The black Falcon 50, operated by Mid-Pacific Jets, was used as a transport for a federal fugitive escaping to Hawai‘i. The scene in "Prisoner's Dilemma", was filmed at the Kalaeloa Airport this past June. The episode, "NCIS Hawai‘i" second season premier, was part two of the crossover episode with "NCIS" season premier episode "A Family Matter".

Life Save Kūpono Shuts Down

Air Method, the parent company of Life Save Kūpono, one of two inter-island air ambulance services in Hawai‘i, has closed Life Save Kūpono's doors today. It was one of several of Air Method's subsidiaries to be shuttered due to inflation, and reduced Medicare compensation.

Life Save Kūpono has four Beechcraft King Air C90As: N911ZC (msn LJ-1557), N911ZD (msn LJ-1559), N911ZE (msn LJ-1358), and N911ZF (msn LJ-1515) based at the Castle & Cooke Aviation hangar; along with a couple of ambulances.

The closure leaves Hawai‘i Life Flight, operated by American Medical Response (AMR), as the sole inter-island air ambulance service

University of Hawai‘i Team Charter

The University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Warriors has chartered a Hawaiian Airlines A330-243, N399HA "Kūmau" (msn 1496, f/n 399), for its road trip to play the University of Michigan Wolverines in Ann Arbor on Saturday. Flying as HAL760, this A330 is making a non-stop flight to DTW, and the team will bus it to Ann Arbor. The team should make its return flight to HNL following the game.

The Rainbow Warriors also have road trips to Las Cruces, NM (24 Sep, vs New Mexico St); San Diego, CA (08 Oct, vs San Diego St); Fort Collins, CO (22 Oct, vs Colorado St); Fresno, CA (05 Nov, vs Fresno St); and San José, CA (26 Nov, vs San José St). It's not known if these road trips will be flown on Hawaiian as team charters.

N191WS (msn 42000155) and N193WS (msn 42000160) are making a series of island-hopping ferry flights from HNL across the South Pacific, due to its short range (1,100 nm).

The Minth Group's Airbus A318-112 ACJ Elite, B-77777 (msn 3363), is making a stop from AGU, as it returns to TSA, via HNL and GUM. This ACJ is operated by EVA Airways.

B-77777 was also here in April 2017, and in April 2011, when it was with Comlux Aviation Malta (9H-AFL).

Nomadic Aviation is ferrying a former Spicejet 737-8GJ, VP-CKP (c/n 37364, l/n 4638) from KUL to GYR (via GUM and HNL) as OMD257. It's being returned to its lessor, BOC, and its stop at HNL will be a brief fuel stop.

May 2020: Withdrawn from service, and stored at DEL.

Dec 2021: Ferried to KUL for storage.

Japan Airlines' JA8944

Japan Airlines is ferrying JA8944 (c/n 28396, l/n 212) from HND to MHV, via HNL. This 777-346 is flying as JAL8132, and is slated for retirement.

It was delivered to JAL in April 1999, and flew until February 2021.

Northern Air Cargo's N563WA

Elan Express has delivered Northern Air Cargo's N563WA (c/n 30563, l/n 786) from SIN to HNL following freighter conversion. According to sources, this 767-3BGERF, in the NAC livery, will remain at HNL. N563WA stopped at HNL on its way to SIN this past February.

It is being leased from Northwest Aviation Leasing (part of the Saltchuk Group). They have three more 767-3BGERs slated for conversion, with one going to Aloha Air Cargo, one to NAC, and one to Strat Air. N565WW recently ferried to QPG. The other two are N564WW (c/n 30564, l/n 798) and N566WW (c/n 30566, l/n 817).

Elan Express is ferrying CargoJet Airways' 757-2G5F, N379BR (c/n 29379, l/n 919) from XMN to YHM, via GUM and HNL, as ELX379. It will be registered as C-GJCS, and leased from Black Rock. This 757 stopped here in February en route to XMN for freighter conversion.

Asia Pacific Airlines Stores N922TS

After flying the USPS contract flights between ONT and GSO, as MGE710/711, for the past several months, Asia Pacific Airlines is placing N922TS (c/n 24845, l/n 300) into storage at SFB. This 757-260F was flown from ONT to SFB today. It's not known how long it will be in storage.

Bonza's VH-UJT

Australia's new start-up airline, Bonza, is taking delivery of their first 737-8, VH-UJT "Shazza" (c/n 62533, l/n 7722), leased from SMBC. It's making its delivery flight from BFI to MEL, via HNL and NAN, as AB1. This 737-8, built in September 2019, was to be leased to LOT Polish Airlines as SP-LVO, but not taken up. Four more LOT 737-8 NTUs are being readied for delivery to Bonza.

LATAM Cargo's N564LA

Nomadic Aviation is ferrying LATAM Cargo's N564LA (c/n 40593, l/n 1038) from QPG to MIA, via HNL as OMD247. This 767-316ERF stopped through HNL this past March on its ferry flight to QPG.

This is the first of four additional 737-9GPERs that will be leased to Delta Air Lines by Aircastle.

Asia Pacific Airlines Acquires N931AB

Asia Pacific Airlines is acquiring N931AB (c/n 30339, l/n 896) from UMB Bank. This 757-231 was also ferried from BYH to SFB. This is also Asia Pacific's first 757 registered with a Hawai‘i address, as the other four are registered with a Guam address.

Icelandair's TF-FIC "Magni" (c/n 30735, l/n 931), is making a stop at HNL on an around the globe private charter flight for Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. The flight, ICE1932, originated from HAM, and has made stops at YQX, YXY, KOA, and HNL. It will return to KOA later today.

This 757 is all white, except for the large Albert Ballin titles. He was the founder of Hapag (of Hapag-Lloyd), which was a shipping company that was based in Hamburg.

All Nippon Airways is resuming their Airbus A380 service between NRT and HNL (ANA184/183) today. The ANA184/183 will operate only on Fridays and Saturdays from today until October 29th. JA381A "Lani" (msn 262) is seen above returning to NRT.

Southern Airways Express is taking delivery of N679PA "The Phil LeFevre" (msn 340B-345) today. This Saab SF-340B is making its delivery flight from DUJ (via XMD, and RNT). It will eventually be re-registered as N95SA.

A German Luftwaffe A400M-180, 54+14 (msn 061), is making a stop at HIK. It's assigned to the Luftwaffe's Air Transport Wing 62 at Wunstorf Air Base.

NASA's SOFIA Airborne Telescope 747SP-21, N747NA (c/n 21441, l/n 306), is making one of its last research flights from PMD to CHC, and is making a fuel stop at HNL. This 747SP is scheduled for retirement by the end of this year, and is spending some time in New Zealand for its remaining missions.
