Vanderbilt University's Team Charter

The Vanderbilt Commodores football team chartered a Delta Air Lines A330 to make their road trip to play the University of Hawai‘i Rainbow Warriors on Saturday. N801NW (msn 0524, f/n 3301), an A330-323, made the team charter flight from BNA to HNL as DAL8912. This A330 will ferry to MSP as DAL8771 tomorrow.

Another airliner will pick up the team on Saturday night following the game.

The Minth Group's Airbus A318-112 ACJ Elite, B-77777 (msn 3363), is making a stop from AGU, as it returns to TSA, via HNL and GUM. This ACJ is operated by EVA Airways.

B-77777 was also here in April 2017, and in April 2011, when it was with Comlux Aviation Malta (9H-AFL).

Japan Airlines is ferrying JA8944 (c/n 28396, l/n 212) from HND to MHV, via HNL. This 777-346 is flying as JAL8132, and is slated for retirement.

It was delivered to JAL in April 1999, and flew until February 2021.

Northern Air Cargo's N563WA


Elan Express has delivered Northern Air Cargo's N563WA (c/n 30563, l/n 786) from SIN to HNL following freighter conversion. According to sources, this 767-3BGERF, in the NAC livery, will remain at HNL. N563WA stopped at HNL on its way to SIN this past February.

It is being leased from Northwest Aviation Leasing (part of the Saltchuk Group). They have three more 767-3BGERs slated for conversion, with one going to Aloha Air Cargo, one to NAC, and one to Strat Air. N565WW recently ferried to QPG. The other two are N564WW (c/n 30564, l/n 798) and N566WW (c/n 30566, l/n 817).

After flying the USPS contract flights between ONT and GSO, as MGE710/711, for the past several months, Asia Pacific Airlines is placing N922TS (c/n 24845, l/n 300) into storage at SFB. This 757-260F was flown from ONT to SFB today. It's not known how long it will be in storage.

Bonza's VH-UJT

Australia's new start-up airline, Bonza, is taking delivery of their first 737-8, VH-UJT "Shazza" (c/n 62533, l/n 7722), leased from SMBC. It's making its delivery flight from BFI to MEL, via HNL and NAN, as AB1. This 737-8, built in September 2019, was to be leased to LOT Polish Airlines as SP-LVO, but not taken up. Four more LOT 737-8 NTUs are being readied for delivery to Bonza.

LATAM Cargo's N564LA

Nomadic Aviation is ferrying LATAM Cargo's N564LA (c/n 40593, l/n 1038) from QPG to MIA, via HNL as OMD247. This 767-316ERF stopped through HNL this past March on its ferry flight to QPG.

Icelandair's TF-FIC "Magni" (c/n 30735, l/n 931), is making a stop at HNL on an around the globe private charter flight for Hapag-Lloyd Cruises. The flight, ICE1932, originated from HAM, and has made stops at YQX, YXY, KOA, and HNL. It will return to KOA later today.

This 757 is all white, except for the large Albert Ballin titles. He was the founder of Hapag (of Hapag-Lloyd), which was a shipping company that was based in Hamburg.

Hickam-based C-17A Delivers Baby Formula

05-5149 (c/n 50157, l/n F-156), a C-17A Globemaster III based at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam, transported the first emergency shipment of baby formula from Rammstein Air Base, Germany to Indianapolis, IN for Operation Fly Formula. The C-17A is part of the active duty 535th Airlift Squadron "Tigers" / 15th Wing, and the Hawai‘i Air National Guard's 204th Airlift Squadron "Nā Pueo" / 154th Wing, as part of the US Air Force's Total Force Integration, which combines both active duty and air guard crews.

N223DP (c/n 30108, l/n 771), a 767-375ER, is ferrying from MZJ to Asia, via HNL, for freighter conversion. Planespotters.net lists that it will go to SF Airlines after conversion.

Virgin Australia's VH-VOS

Southern Cross International is ferrying Virgin Australia's VH-VOS "Chiton Rocks" (c/n 33800, l/n 1483) from BNE to MIA, via MAJ, HNL, and TUS. This 737-8FE, on its lease return ferry flight, is flying as SXI2227. It's due to be registered as 2-VVOS, and undergo freighter conversion.

VH-VOS's History:
May 2004: Delivered to Virgin Blue, named "Kimberley Cutie".
May 2011: Airline rebrands as Virgin Australia, and aircraft renamed "Chiton Rocks".
Mar 2019: Sold to Bocomm Leasing, and leased back.
Mar 2020: Withdrawn from service, and stored at BNE.

FAA Proposes Rhoades Aviation AOC Revocation

The Federal Aviation Administration has proposed to revoke the Air Operators Certificate for Rhoades Aviation (dba TransAir Hawaii) for numerous safety violations. The proposal cites general violations, as well as violations with their 737-200 operations. Their four 737-200Fs have been grounded since the crash of N810TA in July 2021.  Rhoades Aviation has 15 days to respond to the FAA notice.

However, the lone passenger 737-2Q8/Adv, N413JG (c/n 23148, l/n 1059) has been operating as MUI1 quite frequently of late. It's not flying under Rhoades' RDS flight code, as it's registered to TransAir Hawaii.

TransAir Hawaii's Short SD360s have continued to operate cargo flights.

On another note, Transair Hawaii sold their 737-4Q8F, N251AU (c/n 25104, l/n 2476), to Frontera Flight Holdings this past April. It was re-registered as N388TM, and ferried from DHN to SLW. It's due to be sold to Aeronaves TSM [México].

Asiana Airlines' A350 Flights

For the past few weeks, Asiana Airlines has been flying their A350-941s between ICN and HNL as AAR2323/2313. The additional flights, that began on May 8th, have been operating every three days. It's not known how long this supplemental flights will last.

Asiana has resumed its A330-300 service, AAR232/231, though on a reduced frequency of Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays; and will go daily in July.

LATAM Cargo's CC-CXK

Nomadic Aviation is ferrying LATAM Cargo's CC-CXK (c/n 37802, l/n 987) from SIN to MIA, via HNL, as OMD211. This 767-316ERF will be joining LATAM Cargo's Colombian subsidiary.

Qantas Makes Bid To Acquire Alliance Airlines

Simple Flying reports that Qantas Airways has made a AU$614M offer to acquire the remaining shares in Alliance Airlines, whom they already have nearly 20% ownership. Alliance already has a portion of their ERJ-190AR fleet painted in QantasLink colors (top photo). This deal would make Alliance a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Qantas Group. It will need approval by Australian commerce regulators before the acquisition can take place.

Alliance uses HNL as a stopover point as their ERJ-190ARs deliver from SJO to BNE.

Fixed Base Operator Ross Aviation [Denver, CO] has acquired Hawai‘i's FBO Air Service Hawaii. The purchase includes operations and facilities at six Hawai‘i airports (HNL, LIH, OGG, LNY, ITO, and KOA). Ross Aviation itself, is being acquired by Atlantic Aviation.

United Marks 75 Years Of Hawai‘i Service

Today, United Airlines marked its 75th anniversary of service to Hawai‘i. UAL1175 [SFO-HNL] was chosen to be the celebratory flight, flown by N2250U (c/n 66590, l/n 1639, f/n 2150). Passengers at SFO were treated to Hawaiian music, and celebratory swag aboard the flight. Upon arrival at HNL, a blue lei was placed over the forward area of the 777-324ER.

CargoJet Airways' N28836

CargoJet Airways is taking delivery of its next 757-200F, N28836 (c/n 28836, l/n 861), as it makes its delivery flight from XMN to YHM, via GUM, HNL, and OAK, after freighter conversion. This 757-204F, flying as ELX288, will be re-registered as C-GAJU (f/n 510), and is under lease from Black Rock.

N28836 stopped through HNL in October 2021, as it ferried to XMN.

HIANG Retires 60-0329 To Museum

The Hawai‘i Air National Guard retired one of its KC-135Rs, 60-0329 "Kape‘a" (c/n 18104, l/n 443) today, after 25+ years with the 203rd ARS. It made its final flight to the National Museum of the US Air Force at Wright Patterson AFB, in Dayton, OH, where it will be inducted into the museum upon arrival.

During the Vietnam War in 1967, 0329 was involved in the first-ever tri-level air refueling, where it connected with a US Navy A-3, which then refueled a pair of US Navy F-8 Crusaders, then a pair of F-4 Phantoms, and another A-3. The crew was awarded the 1967 Mackey Trophy for meritorious service.

Delta Air Lines' N501DA

Delta Air Lines is sending their first A321-271NX, N501DA (msn 10437, f/n 5001), to HNL from SEA as DAL9959. This is the aircraft's first long-distance over-water flight since its delivery flight in March, and is being used for test and proving flights, as well as ground training (especially since Delta's A321s do not fly here). It's not known when Delta will implement their A321Ns into Hawai‘i service, but the airline currently has only two in their fleet, with another 150+ on firm order.

55 Years Of The 737

On this day, 55 years, ago, the first Boeing 737-100 made its first flight. Since then, nearly 11,000 models have been built over the years from the -100 to the -9MAX, and over 4,000 airframes are on order (including the new -7MAX and -10MAX variants).

Hawai‘i continues to play a pivotal part in the 737 program, as the islands have been home to operators Aloha Airlines, Aloha Air Cargo, TransAir Hawaii, and the US Air Force. Our state's airports have been used as a stopover point for new-build and used 737 delivery flights, as well as lease return ferry flights.

Currently, Alaska Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and United Airlines has 737 flights from the US mainland; Air Canada and WestJet Airlines have 737 service from Canada, and Fiji Airways has 737 service from Fiji.
